  • It took a bit for it to get me involved, but I was glad that I stuck to it. It was very numerous and heartfelt.

  • Third reading and still the funniest book I have ever read. Current or not, it is a page turner if you love to laugh.

  • Meet Jill, television executive and just as disfunctional as the rest of us; sensible (for 15) daughter Daisy; workaholic brother John; and superwoman sister Julie, who never met a challenge that couldn't be handled by organization. Everyone has always known Jill was the family kook--until everything starts falling apart around her. Her mother goes into a coma in an attempt to get family attention; the television network she works for makes a leap for reality tv (and this was in the 1980s before reality tv became the flavor of the day); and when a real family crisis hits, brother John locks himself in his office.

This book made me laugh out loud in the 1980's, and I always return to it when my own family drives me crazy. Dated? Well, secretaries use typewriters instead of computers, and email and cell phones are not part of the workplace, but then when Dickens wrote his books, cars hadn't yet been invented, so I don't think it really matters. Because the characters are so real that you want more. Every few years I check to see if the author has anything new out there (and she finally does).

If you enjoy a good read, this is it. Funnier and truer than most chick lit, this book takes a look at balancing family needs, work, and friends, and brings you out on the other side laughing.

  • This book would probably have been better left in the '80s. Or prehaps it could now be read as historical fiction? The story revolves around Jill who was born a triplet. Her brother is a work-aholic with a ninny for a wife. Her sister is going crazy trying to be super woman. And every man she meets wants to sleep with her. Ok if you don't have anything else to read, but seriously out of date.

  • Jill is a wonderfully, alive crazy woman who has a bizarre family and work place to put up with. But she overcomes all obstacles placed in her path, including her own neuroses, to succeed professionally and personally. All of this in a great comedic novel. Laugh till you cry with this one.
