James Hoggard's work in multiple genres has routinely been called brilliant. A poet, short story writer, novelist, playwright, essayist and translator, he is the author of more than twenty books and the recipient of numerous awards, including, in 2006, the Lon Tinkle Award for Excellence Sustained Throughout a Career. He has also been Poet Laureate of Texas and twice president of the Texas Institute of Letters. Hoggard's collection of essays, Riding the Wind (1997), was hailed as one of the best books ever written by a Texan.

He takes to the road to discover himself, and to discover the mysteries of sex - in some very finely crafted literary love scenes. The precision of Hoggard's writing extends beyond the bedroom to the high plains of Texas and the mountains of New Mexico, with exquisite, poetic landscape descriptions. The novel takes on a mythic tone, making it comparable to the very best American coming-of-age novels.

James Hoggard is an American translator, poet, educator and author. He was the Perkins-Prothro Distinguished Professor of English at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
