  • I loved this book. The characters came to life right off the page. The storyline held my interest throughout the entire book and I found it terribly hard to out down. I have read two of her books and I will continue to read her.

  • I have loved Ms Freeman's writing from the first time I read one of her books over thirty years ago! She draws you into her characters' world with a deft hand and carries you along to the end. It is a shame that this glorious author is no longer with us. But, we are so lucky to be able to get her books today!

  • This is a wonderful story spanning a couple of generations. Some reviews have mentioned that it was wordy and drawn out but I liked knowing what the characters were thinking. Because of this by the time I finished the book I felt like I knew each of the three main characters better than if they were family I lived with. The story addresses the hate and discrimination against Jews. Reading about how Hitler manipulated people to follow him is bothersome, especially in out current political times.

  • Sorry to have this one end. One of the best historical novels, detail, characterizations, time and place; all kept me anxious to pick it up and read more!

  • This book brought the emotional depravity of a young girl growing into a woman without the loving support of her husband and forced loss of all family connections due to his desire to succeed at any cost.

  • The story line was believable. I did notice grammatical errors along the way, and the ending was a little flat. I cared enough about the characters to finish the book.

  • Interesting, slow moving. Too many characters.

  • Basic and predictable.
