Gerald Stern (born February 22, 1925) is an American poet, essayist and educator.

Gerald Stern (born February 22, 1925) is an American poet, essayist and educator. The author of twenty collections of poetry and four books of essays, Stern has taught literature and creative writing at Temple University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Raritan Valley Community College, and Iowa Writers' Workshop. Since 2009, Stern has been distinguished poet-in-residence and a member of the faculty of Drew University's graduate programme for a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in poetry.

Stern speaks to the heart in these poems. Some of Stern's most phenomenal poems are in this collection. His poetry provides a glorious experience for his readers and inspires countless poets. I occasionally tired of his references to literary and legendary people, but other than that, I really enjoyed these. It was obvious he was writing from the wisdom and knowledge of many years even in his early poems which were, after all, published when he was in his mid 40's.
