  • I had no idea what I was getting when I purchased this book. Once I started reading it, I didn't want it to end. The characters were brilliantly drawn and came alive under the adept writing of the author. I felt like I was living in the story because everything and everyone was so well depicted. The story was compelling and was totally believable. The "servants" in the story were fabulous characters, and the narrator was perfect. Read this book!Body of Knowledge

  • The setting of this book made this Texas girl believe every event. It's not what you expect-- just like life itself. I highly recommend this quirky tale of family feuds and the even more interesting internal conflicts these characters endure. Five stars!

  • Ms Dawson knows her subject and the reader is submerged in the mire of family complications of 20th century Texas. Captivated buy the author's voice, I lived for days with this family whose lives delve with generations of secrets and revenge. My only disappointment was the ending that seemed to wander off. I loved the language and loved the characters.
