But locating the lovely doctor presented new dangers.

He may have lost his memory, but not his mercenary skills. And once Jack Coburn learned his real name, he sought out the woman who could help him piece together the rest of his past. Lola Famosa had hired the green beret months ago to find her missing brother. And that mission had nearly cost him his life. But locating the lovely doctor presented new dangers. Someone was determined to keep Lola from her quest, and her life hung in the balance. Jack's first concern might have been regaining his memory, but now it was all about protecting Lola. For she was the one thing this loner was determined to keep.
  • Jack Colburn, former leader to the covert ops Prospero, wakes up on a mountain ledge in Afghanistan with bruises and no memory of who he is. He does however possess his instincts as a former Green Beret and covert ops agent. His only clue to finding out who he is? A letter from a woman in Miami, Lola Famosa.

Jack learns on his journey to the states from Afghanistan that he's a wanted man. He has to find out who he is, what he's been doing, and why his government is looking for him.

Lola Famosa, a pediatrician, has a past filled with danger. So, when Jack enters her life...literally at gun point...and danger enters at the same time, she wonders if her father's past as a Godfather is what's bringing the danger. Jack worries his presence is bringing the danger.

Lola is a bleeding heart sort...always wanting to help people. Her goal: helping Jack regain his memory so she can find out what he knows about her brother's disappearance...what she paid him a million dollars to do in Afghanistan.

As they hide out at her father's mansion, Jack's memory begins to return. He remembers Riley and Buzz, but not why. When he finally regains most of his memory by the end of the story, a betrayal he hadn't expected from his Prospero days has him wondering if Buzz, Riley and Ian even know what's going in with their old nemesis Farouk.

Jack's history is one of solitary. He's not a commitment kind of guy. But Lola seems to be changing that. He finds a way to reach out to his former comrades (through Raven Pierre) but there's no time for their help to arrive when the showdown with Farouk finally comes. Little does he know his former Brothers in Arms have been in Miami looking for him. And, they come to their leader's aide just when he needs them most. It was a good wrap up to finally have these 4 heroes together as Farouk is taken down.

  • Jack returns to Miami not knowing who he is. He lost his memory in Afghanistan where he was on a mission to save Dr. Gabriel Famosa under the employ of Gabe's sister, Dr. Lola Famosa. Both help one another as Lola still hasn't heard from her brother and Jack slowly regains his memory.

I would have probably given it a 4, maybe 5 if one thing turned out differently. I was hoping the whole time as I was reading that Jack and Lola wouldn't get intimate before he fully remembered whether or not he had a woman in his life. Jack did try and be "faithful" in case he did have someone. Later they did get information that it wasn't likely, but it still felt wrong that they went ahead without being 100% sure. It ruined the mood for me and I would have stopped reading if I wasn't almost done and knowing that Harlequin stories of these type don't show the main hero being a cheater. It still wasn't honorable. Even though Jack hadn't remembered any woman being in his life, he got involved with Lola and wasn't willing to give her up even if he found he had a wife and kids.

Overall, story and writing were good. I just had a problem with how Jack's and Lola's involvement took place.

  • I received this book in good condition until I got to the end. The last page was torn out. I will never know what was on the last page #217. I'll never know If Jack
and Lola got together or if Jack's team reactivated Prospero.
I wish someone would send me the last page of the Jan 12,#1326. I would really love to find out the END.

  • the cover of the book sold it to me before I ever read the excerpts. That is what determines whether I read it or not. Again, very well written.

  • Great story loved the mystery involved hope the story continues. Can't wait to read more books by Carol Ericson and more about Prospero!

  • Carol Ericson's entire HQ Intrigue Brother's In Arms series is great, but this last book in the series is even better than that. Maybe it's because I fell in love with Jack in the first prologue of the first book of the series, and Ericson kept me wanting more with every epilogue and prologue in each book until it was Jack's turn. Maybe it's because Jack is a great guy fighting through a crappy hand and Lola is the perfect woman to help him out. I really don't care why, I just know I loved this book!

  • Green Beret Bodyguard is a wonderful cap to the thrilling Brothers In Arms series by Carol Ericson. I've been waiting for Jack's story since the very first prologue - and Ericson provides a fast-paced yet heartfelt romantic suspense that not only answers all the questions raised in the previous three books, but also delivers a heart-pounding, satisfying tale in its own right. If you haven't picked up the Brothers In Arms series, I highly recommend it!

  • excellent completion to the series
