When Joely Doyle was old enough, she left home and set out to create her own identity-away from the faded photographs of the father she never knew, and the faded dreams of her mother, Mimi, who would wait forever for his return.

Returning home to Maine for her mother's final days, Joely Doyle, by observing her sister's life, discovers the sacrifices that her mother made, her father's secrets, and the events that shaped her destiny and will define her future. Original.
  • This story was about two sisters who's parents were very famous at one time. But their father disappeared twenty-four years ago. The story is parts of those parents and the effect it has on the sisters. As you read you get a glimpse of both sisters and their lives with men. How what the father did and their mothers shutting down made them into what they are today.

  • Although this book is based on fiction, it could easily represent real life. There are parents in our society who do not realize how their actions affect their children; how it impacts their future relationships whether in love or with their own children. A child needs love, acceptance & nurturing, in addition to food at the table and a roof over its head; otherwise, that child can grow with emotional scars, detachment and inability to form healthy relationships.

  • Another great book by Barbara Bretton. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen to everyone in the book, but now's its over and I want more. Love how she tells a story, draws you in to the characters lives. Never a cliff hanger either. Each book seems better than the next. Can't wait for the next one.

  • As always, Barbara Bretton shines! A great family story with great passages, character creation, extending from Maine to Scotland. Engrossing, fast read...you are drawn into the characters and atmosphere Bretton creates. For further great reading, my very favorite Bretton series is the Pax Series, with Paradise Point NJ Series as runner-up.

  • This is a sweet story. Two sisters who can't let love in, they have, but have not faced their fears. As the story unfolds so does love. Julie and Cat find they are in love, the see love in there parents music and they face their fears. And then the magic begins.

  • I have come to love everything that Barbara Bretton writes. Her style and crafting are impeccable. This book is an excellent example. She is able to share a wonderful story about the meaning of family as well as sharing the growing relationships of two very different sisters.

  • Very enjoyable to read. Sisters full of love a dysfunctional family. Questions of commitment and love and a good ending ... what could better.

  • Each character was well developed. You wanted to know the out come and see their reaction as they discover their strength and desire for life!
