has always enjoyed creating stories. He scratched his bare chest, debating whether he had time to grab a shirt before leaving, then decided the kid looked too desperate for even a minute’s delay.

Once upon a time, there were three little girls. Charity. Justine. Anna. Individually, they're lethal weapons. Together? They're the force to be reckoned with at Liberty Investigations. Their bodies may be made for sin, but everything else is for kicking ass . . . Charity Former model-turned-martial arts expert, Charity Keone is used to people thinking she's just a pretty face. They usually figure out the "oh crap" part just after she turns them into human pretzels and hauls them off to jail. And it's clear her latest client, shipping magnate Daniel Williams, is one of those guys who thinks she's all looks-until she saves him from a shooter. He responds passionately, and Charity . . . lets him. Whoa, baby. Suddenly Charity's wondering just whose body needs guarding . . . Growing up on the streets can make a guy wary, but nothing like the way Charity's got Daniel on his toes. Everything about her, from her Ivy League smarts to her criminally luscious bod, has him thinking less about the guys who want to take him out and more about showing Charity a few of his own moves. Lips-on-the-neck moves. Hands-everywhere moves. Pleasure-till-we-both-need-pain-medication moves. As long as he can keep his secrets safe from her it should be fine. But putting your life in the right hands is one thing, trusting your heart to them is something else . . .
  • Ok

  • Enjoyed this fast paced story line with both romance and suspense. Continuing saga and enjoyed the characters. Would have liked a longer book.

  • The first two or three pages were promising but got bogged down by excessive introspection on the heroine's part. I generally like getting into the character's head but in Charity's case, it interfered with what was happening between her and Daniel so that Bare Facts became a rather uneven read for me.

Inspite of this, I never quite connected with the protagonists which resulted in my skipping the sex scenes to get to the action/suspense. A romantic suspense featuring the Yakuza ought to be a little grittier, IMO, but Bare Facts isn't very different from the superficial TV series that Charity, Justine and Ann (I think that's the 3rd girl's name) is likened to. The sense of real danger that surrounded Daniel never quite communicated itself to me, and I think it was a mistake for the author to allow her heroines to be tagged with the Charlie's Angels label. It detracted from the seriousness of the situation and prevented me from taking anything seriously. Hard to when Charity is described as supermodel beautiful with big breasts and the other two "angels" are equally sexy, if different in personality and skills when Sam, their boss, communicates with them unseen, through a one-way video conference (he can see them but they can't see him, of course). The emphasis seemed to be on building this image of the girls and the agency they work for such that it overshadowed the plot and the rest of the characters.

In the end, this book just didn't pull me in and I couldn't help but dismiss it as a bit of fluff or feel that the old '70s TV series was a lot more entertaining.

  • Charity Keone works for security firm, Liberty Investigations. The firm is hired by Daniel Williams, a wealthy CEO of an importing company.

Williams is being blackmailed by a man named Sekiuima. Recently, Williams' home was broken into and a member of his staff was hospitalized.

Two other girls work for Liberty Investigations. They get their orders from their boss by speaker phone and jokingly refer to themselves as "Charlie's Angels."

Charity is a martial arts expert and a marksmanship shooter. As she is working to keep Daniel safe, they become drawn to each other and have difficulty in keeping the business and emotional side apart.

Daniel had grown up on the streets and had been in a gang. He even did work for Sekijima. Now, he doesn't know how much he could tell Charity or what her reaction would be if she knew what his history was.

There wasn't much suspense in the novel. I found that the characters were stereotypes and had no depth. As much as I wanted to, I found that I just didn't care what happened to them.

The facts of the novel might be bare but, so is the story.

  • Words can't adequately express how unspeakably bad this is, but I will give it a shot.

The book has zero character or relationship build. Since the little we know of both humorless charaters renders them wildly unappealing and unsympathetic (though good-looking, of course) one has no interest in seeing them even have good sex, let alone good love. (Spoiler alert) Hit man who is just misuderstood? Are you freaking kidding me?! Especially a hit man with no remorse at all. And when she learns he is a hit man the only thing she cares about is that in the telling he called her "sweetheart" and must have feelings???? It is okay that you sort of liked the years you spent as a hired killer as long as you really like me? That is both pathetic and pathological. Also, she is his bodyguard and the only thing he thinks about is how to protect her and her partners. Why on God's green earth would you hire female body guards and then get all macho about it. He was paying them to let him protect them? I don't get it. Also, I really need to mention that the writing is painfully terrible. I hope Ms. Garbera's 4th grade writing teacher is not reading her material. If she is she must be awfully disappointed that her lessons on grammar and syntax were ignored.

  • I feel like lately all I do is come on line to review mediocre to poor books by authors I really enjoy. Perhaps they are all being pushed to publish too much, too quickly. Way too much agonizing by both H and h about what would happen when the other learned about their past--really? One is an elite bodyguard and the other has ties to lethal Japanese gangs and they are going to be surprised by each others' pasts? It was a shame to waste Daniel in this story, he had real potential. This seemed like major copyright infringement of Charlie's Angels and the women in it were about as cardboard and interesting. I'm not even reading the other two in the series and that's what makes me really mad that I didn't just waste money on one book. I'm learning to not just buy my favorite authors automatically anymore. At least Katherine wrote an honest book here and didn't take earlier work and repackage it under a new title like so many are doing these days.
