Ugly taught me more about giving and compassion than a thousand books, lectures, or talk show specials ever could, and for that I will always be thankful. He had been scarred on the outside, but I was scarred on the inside, and it was time for me to move on and learn to love truly and deeply. To give my total to those I cared for. All of us would want to be richer, more successful, well liked, or beautiful. But for me, I will always try to be "Ugly" Author Unknown.

Will her lust for the forbidden ruin her relationship with the man she loves? Is she too deep into corruption for God to pull her out of the trenches? Sinsatiable is another powerfully gripping tale by Lipsey that delves into real life issues faced by people of faith.

Three friends with different struggles rely on God and each other to get by. Layla Hobbs has so much to offer, including a beautiful singing voice, but obesity and low self-esteem hold her back from life and finding true love. Envy Wilson has always been Layla's backbone. But what about her own dark secrets? She won't share them with anyone, and it's starting to eat away at her from the inside. And then there's Kacie Mayweather. Stricken with cerebral palsy, she's had her share of men--five baby daddies for six children, in fact. But she's never had one man to call her own. They'll need plenty of faith and support from each other to see the real beauty that lies within each one of them and fulfill their deepest desires at last.

"Beautiful Ugly" by Sheila E. Lipsey [Bell]

    My Thoughts...

This was quite a interesting well written story about three friends...Envy, Layla and Kacie. Each one of these ladies have a different story that was well told in their own unique way. One of these ladies let's say had a lots of 'bedtime friends, another one with a wonderful voice but suffered from self esteem issues and a little on the heavy side and the last one who was born with cerebral palsy however, that didn't stop her...she had six children with another one on the way with no hubby! All three friends were battling some insecurities in one way or another. These three ladies argued and fussed a lot however they were always their for each other when the time was needed. This read was rather entertaining, as well as engaging being so full of its drama and twist and turns. I liked the Christian aspect of the read which was well done by this author. If you are looking for a story full about 'friendship, family drama and secrets then you have come to the right place. Why was it that it seems like every time these friends would get together or even talk on the phone they often got into such heated arguments? Was it because they did not seem to know the meaning of true love? However, Envy, Layla and Kacie always seemed to stick together in the good times and also the bad times. That was one of the reasons I loved about the novel.

The other characters in this story really helped make this read so very interesting...from Nikkei, Leonard, Deacon, Mrs. Rawlings and Dennis to name a few. To get the rest of this wonderfully believable told story you will have to pick up book 2 'True Beauty' to see what happens next for Layla, Kacie and Envy.

  • This book was very well written and I'm so glad that I decided to read it and get the finale at the same time. It spoke of truly trusting in God. It's so hard sometimes to forgive yourself of your sins even after God has.
Envy, Layla and Kacie are definitely true friends and sisters. The way they sometimes spoke so harshly to each other but was always able to be there for each other in spite of the harsh words was a beautiful thing to see. True friends are hard to find but I think these ladies have a super strong bond.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs to forgive themselves and the ones who hurt them. God is able. Bless you Shelia E. Lipsey !!!

  • This is the fourth book I've read by Shelia Lipsey. I find her to be an engaging story-teller who uses believable dialog and interesting plot twists. This "girlfriends" book follows the story of three thirty-somethings, Envy, Layla and Kacee, through their struggles in love and life. The book starts out a little slow and unfocused, but it picks up quickly when a tragedy occurs to one of the main characters that prompts all three to take a look at where their lives are headed. I would have given this book more stars, but unfortunately, it falls victim to such poor editing that it takes away from the quality of the work. As a result of numerous grammatical errors and misspellings, it sometimes reads like it was written by an eighth-grader. However, I still wouldn't let this put me off the book completely. Give it a try, it's a decent read, plot-wise.

  • As often as we look at that outter self how focus should be how inner self and the spirit that lives within us at any given time reflection is needed for a spiritual makeover look forward to reading the next book

  • This book is beautifully written. You get to know the characters and their lives personally. You want to know everything about them. I've read many books in my life, but Shelia E. Lipsey is my favorite. She is a must Read. Keep em coming!!!

  • God loves us know matter what we do. He is loving, kind and just. Relationship with Jesus is a must.

  • This book was about three friends that had different burdens and strongholds in their life that the had to let go before the could see the beauty in their ashes

  • I enjoyed the storyline and I loved that the author did not sugar coat Christianity or the lives of these three women.
