A One Woman Man: A Novel (Strivers Row). Trouble Man. Travis Hunter. Initially, I obtained the book just to see "what" a man from a small town in South Carolina (the one in which I currently reside) could possibly say to the world. Giving his age, I could not imagine what he had experienced that could really make a difference. In a span of 5 hours, I found out.

  • This is the 2nd novel that I have read by this author. He is a really good writer and this is my favorite of the two that I have read. So many current novels are so full of people exploiting their bling- bling and elaborate writings of how fly they are. Now, we know that most of us do not live that type of life. Mr. Hunter brings a fresh approach to the Brotha next door who struggles to make a living while fighting all of the turmoils of life. I love how he is carefully to use just enough urban slang to put you in a comfortable mood with the setting. He proves to the Brotha that "Ms. Ann" is not always the answer to his dream. Look in the mirror and allow it to reflex what you are and where you really are. I think little Khalil was so cute trying to be mannish and grow up to be a man. Thank you again for a good crafted story with realism.

  • This book was another piece adding to my collection. I like this book alot it was truly worthed my time. Jermaine was indeed a trouble man from the little things as a rat down to the most serious things as his life. This book will keep you turning turning turning

  • Gripping...absolutely stimulating! Trouble Man was my first Travis Hunter novel. I must say he did a fine job with the character development. Jermaine was a perfect example of someone getting caught up in the game. I was thoroughly engrossed in this book, so much that I finished it in one day!

  • Trouble Man is a great read. You are able to put yourself in the book. I could not put thr book down until the last page. I enjoyed the book very much.

  • Mr. Hunter, you know what're doing.

  • Trouble Man by Travis Hunter should be a required reading for young males. It gives a good look inside the life of a street wise young man. Jermaine realizes that he must grow up and become a man who has to set examples and be a father to his son.
Hunter made the reader look inside oneself in order to deal with love, faith and the courage to grow.

  • I have listened to this audio book at least 10 times ( honestly!) when i run out of new ones, i come back to this. I know its old but it doesn't matter. The story line flows perfectly and i actually care about the characters and what happens to them- even the very minor characters. Try to get the audio book if you can or download it at audible. This narrator does a real good job.

  • Jermaine Banks is a troubled man, who has had a hard life for his 29 years. Abandoned even before his birth by his father, it would stand to reason that growing up in the inner city of Philadelphia, Jermaine would be a hardened individual. Through the incredible tenure of his mother and caring individuals who have been placed in his life, Jermaine is not a statistic in this story and this makes for very refreshing reading. Travis Hunter, with his third novel Trouble Man has written an unusual kind of inspirational book
Drama surrounds Jermaine's life. A drug dealer on the streets of inner city Philly who firmly believes that he's providing a service, he's subjected himself to a lot. He's the father of a precocious little boy named Khalil with whom he's fiercely loyal to, a girlfriend named Erin who is pregnant. Her family is overly protective of her, which causes crisis for Jermaine. His best friend is a victim of street violence, he has a rat in his apartment, Khalil's mom has gone to the lesbian side and a knock comes to the door, a man claiming to be his grandfather. Across town from Jermaine is an even deeper spiral of sewer waste, Calvin Sharpe who is a 51-year-old Real Estate Magnate with a wife and 15-year-old son C.J., and numerous affluences. Calvin is determined to leave his wife for a white woman and begin life again just because he thinks he can. When the lives of Calvin and Jermaine collide, trouble is an understatement. Jermaine has resolved to get off the streets and get Khalil into better surroundings and live life right. Calvin is hell bent on ruining his. Plot twists abound, but I won't say that the outcomes were necessarily predictable. Some were even far fetched, but interesting to consider nonetheless.
Travis Hunter has continued characters from his previous works in Trouble Man. Not so much a continuation as a different and varied prospective which makes his writing more readable. I think that any reader who wants a no nonsense approach to reading would enjoy Trouble Man. If you get the chance to meet Mr. Hunter in person, I would strongly encourage you to do so. To hear his personality, really adds another dimension to his writing.
