I bought this card set for my non verbal 3 year old son. He currently is enrolled in the Early Childhood Special Education program. My 13 month old loves these cards! I keep them by his books and he pulls them out himself and will actually sit still going through both decks we have (animals and shapes and colors). He loves feeling the fuzzy parts and it really is encouraging him to try saying the names of the animals. They hold his attention well enough that he'll focus and listen intently while I tell him the names and let him touch each one.

DK publishes highly visual, photographic nonfiction for adults and children I also own the First Words and Animal series. I prefer those over Things That Go. These don't have as much sensor. ore shiny paper than anything.

  • My near 3yo son didn't care for workbooks before this. He is really into cars, trucks, diggers and trains now (all of which are in the book, oh-and rockets, too), so I figured I'd give this one a try. We bought it locally a couple of days ago, and after going through it once with him, he's gone back to it a couple of times, all on his own!

It's great for beginners with lots of fun & easy lines and shapes to trace. And it also has more difficult shapes, letters/words, numbers (incl. counting) and shapes to try as writing skills develop.

We use a medium-tip dry erase marker with the book. It writes well and erases cleanly with a tissue.

I don't know if it's the "things that go" theme or the fun layout of the book that my son likes so much...probably a combination of both. But I'm compelled to look for more.

  • My son tends to gravitate toward books that have *real* pictures moreso than illustrations... and he loves this book. He relates to it more; he has toys that look similar to the pictures in this book, he relates to the other babies, and the text is short enough that he doesn't get bored before I finish reading. He loves to turn the pages himself - has for months - so board books are great for that. One note: the cover of this book is different than what you will see when you click on "search inside this book" - my review is based upon the book that is shown in "search inside this book"... the cover shown in the "search" excerpt is the book that I bought. On the cover of the book shown here, there is a boy on a sled, and in our book, there is no sled, so I'm not sure what you can expect when buying it through Amazon.com. It's easily found in other stores like TJ Maxx and Target, though.

  • I was very unhappy with this book. My son just transitioned to a toddler room from a nursery. The book seem to go with the theme until we flipped to this particular page. We are AA amd i was totally offended. Notice the African American kids in the back of the bus with tiny windows as if they are in prison. The Caucasian kids are all up front with large windows and smiling faces. This brought me to tears. Kids are so innocent and why must we continue to face such blatant racism in 2015. The book was published in 2010.

  • I bought this for my grandson (2 years and 4 months). He loves it. Problem is he is active and twice hit me in the leg with the pen. I didn't worry about it thinking it's a children's toy it will wash out. Well believe me it does not wash out. I got it on a pair of white capri's. I used a tide pen with clorox, oxiclean, spray n wash, soaking, scrubbing you name it the mark is still there. I have 2 ruined pairs of pants and when I contacted the manufacturer they offered me 10% off another book. I would never buy another of these books.

  • My 2yr old may be a little too young for this one. He loves the my first things that go board books. But he won't draw in this wipe clean one.

  • Perfect for my baby girl
