When Peter's family saves a little goat from being used for the Christmas feast and name him Pashmina, the goat returns their kindness by growing his hair quickly, which they shave and sell at the marketplace, making enough money to support them through the rest of the winter.
  • I love this story. We reread it every year. The message is such an important one. It is a great gift for any child's library collection.

  • This was a gift for a niece and she really enjoyed the book. It is a cute story and has great illustrations.

  • I know goat herders in Maryland who make soap and lotion from the goat milk. I loved this story. Very family and children oriented..

  • Short and sweet—like the title character—this gentle children’s story tells a simple tale of Christmas compassion—which is ultimately repaid with ample interest. Set in an unspecified region of Northern Europe PASHMINA relates how a poor but kindly mountaineer found and rescued a trapped little angora goat. Rather than kill her for their Christmas dinner, the family decides to make her a pet. How Pashmina non-verbally expressed her gratitude to the kind family which took her is a simple tale—gently spun with skilled tenderness.
Very young children easily relate to any character described as "little,” such as this heart-warming good luck goat. My only criticism: on page 7 the text is difficult to read placed against the dark blue of the illustration. Readability would be improved if the text were lowered 4-5 lines. Nevertheless, this story proves an instant charmer.

  • Loved the books and the process
