  • I am sitting in on a course on Tolkien, so I ordered several biographies to read in preparation. This one was a last minute addition as I was afraid that it would not be in depth enough for what I wanted. While it is short, it is easy to read and would be my choice for kids who wanted to know something about their favorite author.

  • Great light biography and photos!
    Especially good for young readers

  • Interesting, very intersting. If you have ever wondered what made J.R.R. Tolkien write his epic master piece, or are curious about what he was like growing up, this book is a must fo you. Of course being a biography it can be a bit dull at times, but so what that how life is boy! This book afirmed that the respect and admiration I have for J.R.R. Tolkein was not just me blowing his importance out of proportion, for he truly always has, and always will be, a master of fantasy!

  • I read this for a project on Tolkien, and it was very informative. It wasn't too long that it got boring, but told all the basic information that I needed. I would really recommend this if you are new to Tolkien's life and like his works. It also has a very convenient timeline in the back that worked very well in my project. I would really recommend this book.
