The novel's original French title, Notre-Dame de Paris, refers to Notre Dame Cathedral, on which the story is centered.

He grew up in the mountains of Central Pennsylvania, where his Scots-Irish ancestors have lived for more than 200 years.
Believing Les Miserables to be a fine work of literature, I undertook the reading of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. One must persist through Hugo's long preliminaries to appreciate the tragedy of the tale. These somewhat tedious preliminaries are integral to the power of the whole. It is well worth the effort.
