Kipling's "Just So Stories" have enthralled generations of children and adults who have delighted in their whimsical explanations . This collection contains six of the best of these tales, charming new illustrations by Thea Kliros.
Kipling's "Just So Stories" have enthralled generations of children and adults who have delighted in their whimsical explanations of the special physical characteristics of certain animals. Three of them explain "How the Whale Got His Throat, " "How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin" and "How the Leopard Got His Spots. The Crab That Played with the Sea" relates the crab's origins.
Kipling wrote equally well for children and adults. His best-known children's books are Just So Stories (1902), The Jungle Books (1894-95), and Kim (1901). His short stories, although their understanding of the Indian is often moving, became minor hymns to the glory of Queen Victoria's empire and the civil servants and soldiers who staffed her outposts.
Rudyard Kipling, Thea Kliros (Illustrator). The Jungle Book" is a great classic, and this version is especially wonderful because of the gorgeous full-color illustrations by Nicola Bayley
Rudyard Kipling, Thea Kliros (Illustrator). Written over a century ago, Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story continues to resonate as it takes us from one adventure to the next. I'd seen adaptations of the stories presented here (beginning with Mowgli being raised by wolves with the help of Baloo the Bear), but there's nothing like revisiting the original tales. The Jungle Book" is a great classic, and this version is especially wonderful because of the gorgeous full-color illustrations by Nicola Bayley. Both children and adults will find this book to be delightful.
from The jungle book, first published by the Century C. New York, 1894. The stories are printed here unabridged. Mowgli's brothers - Kaa's hunting - Tiger! Tiger! Includes several adventures of Mowgli, the boy reared by a pack of wolves in an Indian jungle.
Ofcourse Mowgli, as a wood-cutter's child, inherited all sorts ofinstincts, and used to make little play-huts of fallen branches withoutthinking how he came to do it. The Monkey People, watching in the trees, considered these huts most wonderful. This time, they said, they werereally going to have a leader and become the wisest people in thejungle-so wise that every one else would notice and envy them
I love Dover Children's Thrift Classics. It's a wonderful idea to put a manageable number of classic stories (6, in this case) in 1 volume for such a low price. I'm not crazy about this translation of Perrault's version of Cinderella.
I love Dover Children's Thrift Classics. It's not so much the happy ending for everyone (Cinderella fixes it so her stepsisters live happily ever after, unlike the Grimm version in which their eyes are pecked out by birds) as the sometimes awkward, sometimes perfuntory descriptions & narrations
Written over a century ago, Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story continues to resonate as it takes . This book contains poems and three unabridged stories about Mowgli, a little boy who is raised by the wolves as a man-cub.
Written over a century ago, Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story continues to resonate as it takes us from one adventure to the next. He learns the Law of the Jungle, gets kidnapped by the Monkey People, and fights the tiger, Shere Khan.
Children's Fiction, Classic Literature, Fantasy. The Jungle Book was published in 1894 and is actually a collection of seven short stories. Reader: Ralph Cosham. Many of the stories centre around a human child named Mowgli, who is adopted by a pack of wolves and raised as one of their own. A major theme in the book is abandonment followed by fostering, as in the life of Mowgli, echoing Kipling's own childhood.
