  • Odd story line for small children.

  • This is the Dumbest childrens book i have ever read. Seriously Dont waste your money. Sounds cute but is creepy.

  • Bring a signed book to the baby shower instead of a card ... this book was perfect for a baby shower book whether the baby is going to be named Matilda or not.

  • Kid pretending to be a princess at a party (OK, but giant downhill from here). She gets angry bc parents tell her to do something (adults then make fun of her/laugh at her anger---not cool!), so, she imagines boiling her admirers/parents/toys as a witch (yikes! NOT a way to deal with anger). Her imagination then takes her on an escapism jaunt till she goes to bed (I'm a butterfly, in a jungle, now in my room). Emotions are not actually dealt with, no plots resolved. I think this is a horrible book for kids with an awful interpretation of anger, teasing, and unhealthy violent reactions and escapism/avoidance. Illustrations are on somewhat interesting, but dingy and dark looking, too. I'm getting rid of it. I don't want any kid to ever read it. Find other books to teach about emotions, hero journeys, and fantasy. This one is awful.

  • Wow! This book is positively awful! I am a lover of children’s books and have an extensive library of them. Somehow, this one landed in my lap, probably from a thrift store super sale. I obviously didn’t read prior to purchase. The story is appalling. Spoiled brat, narcissistic, sadistic little girl. Parents are incompetent. I have children and have cared for many, many children in my days. I would say that yes, in general, children are narcissistic, self-centered, prone to anger and selfishness, but do we as parents and teachers leave them there and encourage them to be as such? Imagine a society of such people! Children’s books that portray the main character as simply awful, giving in to whims and selfish, violent desires definitely don’t encourage them to forsake foolishness and pursue love and the benefit of others. The illustrations are weird and morbid and not to be compared with art, some skill maybe, but not art, not beautiful in any way. One could forgive or gloss over the illustrations if the story was beautiful. This child is surely headed for prison. Just talk to law enforcement and correctional officers and court judges of this kind of personality and where it leads. Shocking!

  • I seldom write reviews for books since English is not my native language. I bought this book occasionally several years ago before my daughter was born. I was attracted by its unique illustrations. Several weeks ago, I began to read this book to my daughter in Chinese (translated English into Chinese.) My daughter loves it so much...So, I tried to google similar books for her and found all kinds of reviews for this "Princess Matilda". I found a review from Michelle from goodreads. I have the same feeling about the book, so I posted it here: " I like that Matilda is not the typical sweet demure princess- she's a real girl with real emotions// At the same time she's a little bit horrible and angry (narcissistic personality disorder?) I love that she is Multi-dimensional, a princess is just one of her many sides that she enjoys exploring."
    Anyway, great book!

  • I get why people are kind of offended by this book, but I thought it was still a cute book, and the drawings were gorgeous.

  • This book is very sad. I read it to my daughter then instantly regretted my decision. This book is negative and the imagery is almost scary... I do not suggest that anyone read this book to their child.
