These are fun books about the fall season that could be read to students or that could be located in the classroom library during the seasons unit.

These are fun books about the fall season that could be read to students or that could be located in the classroom library during the seasons unit. Such books would help enrich students' understanding of the fall season. Great idea to have a nature table with books for each season to allow children to explore the seasons. Nice collection of fall picture books. We love Woody, Hazel and Little Pip.

The autumnal equinox is the first day of fall. It is celebrated by many different cultures and plays a significant role in some beliefs. For most people, fall is a time that ushers in harvests, preserving food for the upcoming months, enjoyment of the colors of the changing leaves and beginning to prepare oneself both physically and psychologically for the upcoming colder months. Consider staying up during the night to welcome autumn. Many people like to welcome in fall by remaining awake all night, to honor the equal length of day and night. Perhaps tie this in with a celebration with friends, by holding a small dinner party which features autumn flavors, such as squash, pears and apples.

The September equinox (or Southward equinox) is the moment when the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, heading southward. Due to differences between the calendar year and the tropical year, the September equinox can occur at any time between September 21 and 24. At the equinox, the Sun as viewed from the equator rises due east and sets due west. Before the Southward equinox, the Sun rises and sets more northerly, and afterwards, it rises and sets more southerly.

  • We have been reading this book over and over again at bedtime. My children are 5.5 and 2 and both of them love hearing about how different people around the world celebrate one of our favorite times of the year. As a bonus, it gives us all kind of fodder for unit studies! I can't wait till it's time to start reading the Shortest Day!

  • Add more to Thanksgiving by sharing the stories of other cultures and understanding different traditions.
