  • Lovely book! My boy and I read it together quite often. Finding books with ethnic images is no small feat and this book fits the bill. It is a nice story, well wrtten and easy to read prose. The story simply expresses the strong bods of love between a mother and her son.

  • I really love this story. Some might not like the "ethnic tone" of the book, but it is really just a sweet story about how a mom loves her son. This will be a classic for us and any kiddos to come.

  • I have a son and I love him so much. This book is so beautiful. Everytime we read it together, it is a celebration of our love for each other. I think that it is very important for black mothers to express that kind of love to theirs sons daily given the type of world we live in. In addition, the paintings in this book are a feast to the eyes. My son loves it and I do too....but there is one problem, when I read it to my son, I do use proper English. I could not allow myself to read the book to him as is.

  • I worked with the author. This is an amazing book.

  • My daughter and I love this book! I have to read it to her everyday.

  • This is my 21 month old daughter's favorite book. She will not go to bed until I've read it to her. I love the fact that it doesn't sound like an old negro spiritual; that was very important for me as an AA to show my children that not everything they read about themselves has to equate to slavery.

  • How many times did we read it the first night? I lost count! It is his favorite book now! Excellent!

  • I did not like the grammar in this book. I read some of the prior reviews and thought it might not be so bad. I was wrong...
