Marc Brown realistically brings out a child’s fear of being a failure in a class, as Arthur goes through the same trauma when he tries to think of everything that would make his story seem more exciting to the class, even if the story does not make any sense. I love the way that Arthur’s friends do try to help him out with his story since they inspired him to be more creative with his story.

  • I enjoy reading Arthur to my students. John Lanese

  • Cute story about doing things your way, instead of trying to do it the way someone else would.

  • As a third grade teacher, I am constantly trying to find ways to catch a student's interest. When it comes time to teach the writing process, I begin by reading this book. Although it seems to be overly simplistic for the grade level, it does convey what happens when your subject is too broad or your ability to stay on topic has gone awry - disaster! The "what not to do" idea in this book has become invaluable.

  • I do not remember this one when it first came out and was excited to buy it for my 5 year old so that I could see what I was missing. Always loved the Arthur books when I was little.

  • Thumbs up

  • as described- great story

  • Great book, my students loved it so I had to purchase it. It helps new writers

  • For teachers:

This is a great mentor text to use when introducing the writing process. More specifically, it's great to introduce personal narratives!
