A rhymed tale describing the antics of a capricious wind  . With rhyming verse and colorful illustrations, Pat Hutchins takes us on a merry chase that is well worth the effort.

The wind was blowing up from the bottomlands and he caught the scent of the hounds and the hunter. As he moved across the winter scene few animals could match the splendor of the colorful picture he made. For a moment he was frightened. His fur had taken on the rich lustrous beauty of the blended burnt orange, tawny yellows, ebony black and creamy whites of the mature fox. The golds and red browns of his thick bushy tail were flecked with black.

  • Simple story of the wind blowing something away from a new person on every page until the wind drops everything before going out to sea. I did not like some of the artwork (long flat heads) and wished it showed some people thrilled/happy/laughing at the end of the book when the objects fell back down instead of everyone "stunned/shocked." At least everyone was smiling on the very last page, but still seemed more forced and controlled than real smiles. Very simple book for very little kids. I got it for a 2 year old.

  • My students loved this book! They laughed so hard. The best part was that the Kindle version AirPlayed beautifully on my Apple TV. Thank you Amazon Kindle!

  • This is a wonderfully detailed story. The text is descriptive and fun and the pictures are captivating and laughable. My older child likes to guess who the wind's next victim will be based on the pictures and the mixed-up ending is just downright silly!

  • My family just loves Pat Hutchins, and this was the first book of hers that we read. My son started to love this book when eh was 2 (he is now 5) and his sister is now 2 is also a fan. I love the story, and the illustrations. The detail is just amazing in her drawings, and the words help lull the kids at bedtime, but also help them understand the power of the wind. A must read, and a must for any bookshelf!

  • Cute book remember having it as a kid. My son seems to enjoy it.

  • I purchased this book to use in a speech therapy activity with my preschoolers and it was perfect.

  • Cute book. Love the rhyming tale and how it flows from one page to the next. Great for story for kindergarten students.

  • Cute kids book. Nice colorful illustrations. Fun story.
