  • I love these books! Why are they getting so hard to find? I love these for very beginner readers! It helps the child understand word families (ig for pig, wig, jig). I think if a child can recognize word families and not have to sound out P-I-G, it makes it much easier. Then they only sound out P and add the ig. Learning to chunk letters together when reading is a very important part of later reading. If we had to sound out each word individually in "concentration" it would be much harder to learn to read! I found these when I was teaching my son to read, but he was mostly past this. I wish I had found them earlier. I bought some since I want to teach my daughter some basic reading before K to help her get a bit ahead so K is easier and she can worry more about the social and not worry about having to learn to read!

  • My 4 year old preschooler is loving this book. Good for learning several sets of rhyming words with charming pictures. Even my 2-1/2 year old is enjoying the page cut-outs that make one page's artwork into something else in the next page. Cool idea, well executed. I like the hard cover but I'd prefer to spend a little less. I plan to buy more from the series if the price nudges down a dollar or two!

  • I love this book series. I just stumbled upon it b/c a retired teacher friend gave my son one of the books in the series. I figured there had to be more, and this was a sweet surprise.

  • This is the first whole book my son read!!
My near 5 y/o preschooler has been able to read several 3 letter words for awhile. We tried other books but he would get discouraged and tired of reading quickly because they were either too long or contained words he was not able to sound out yet.

This book's bright and cute illustrations, plus the clever lift up flaps compelled my son to read the whole book.
I bought a copy for my son's teacher (who is a reading specialist) and she Loved it too!

  • Wish I could find it new, but worth getting used. My daughter loves that she can read the words :)

  • My little 3year old nice loves all these book!! Get it is amazing having them read you the book and asking if you want to read it again!!!

  • Our family LOVES LOVES LOVES these books. We covet them and both my daughters (3 & 6) can't get enough. BUT, the part that made it so fun was the cut outs in the middle of the page around a character's face, where you could watch a red barn on page transform in the face of a different cute character on the next. So fun and cute! So of course when I saw a new book in the series - Ice Mice - being released, I was on it. EXCEPT, this book no longer has the cute cut outs around the faces, just a simple illustration on each page. WAY LESS FUN FOR THE KIDS. The older version of Pig Wig is still available - definitely get that one instead!!

  • If you teach your kids according to the word families, this book is a must have. For the first few pages they focus on one word in the family with an adorable illustration. For example a cute pig. At the end of a few pages, there is a word family review containing a few of the words put together like pig and jig.

This book focuses on the families of ig, ug and at.

While this book will is only for short term learning, this is a must have. I wish I saw these books when my girls were younger. I will now use them in my classroom. These book are an easy way to teach the kids and see them succeed right away.
