  • I loved these fairy tales when my kids were little, and many of them have stayed with me over the years. The morals are modern and powerful. For example, The Glass Cupboard never mentions the planet Earth or conservation, but it gives the message that we can't keep taking without giving back. Katie Make Sure guides us that there are many good paths in life, and that if we worry too much about choosing the right one, we'll miss out! I misplaced my beloved old copy and purchased another so my nineteen year old daughter could read Katie Make Sure again. She did read it and agreed that it is on point!

  • This is a great collection of off-beat "fairy tales" for the whole family. I used it in an ESL class for adults and a 4th grade class to illustrate the different ways stories are told in different cultures.

  • I highly recommend this book. I read it to my two girls 30 years ago and had enormous fun doing so. Now that it's back in print, and has lost none of it's charm or superb illustrations, I've been making gifts of them to friends with young families. Treat yourselves.

  • These stories, fantastic. 12 stars. But this Puffin edition is paperback sized, with Michael Foreman's gorgeous watercolors reduced to dingy postage stamps.

Do yourself and your kid a favor, and get the big color version. They'll be enticed by the pictures, and will be better able to read themselves with the bigger type.

  • Not sure why I'm not giving it 5 stars. Both my grandson and I are enjoying the stories a lot. It's great to read new stories, none of them disneyfied, and only a few a bit preachy. The humor is a bit arch, but that's to be expected, and it's good to expand the kid's range. It's been about 3 weeks since the last time we were in the book together, so my recollection is a bit blunted.

  • I loved this book when I was young and it has not lost any of it's chutzpah. The stories are unique, creative and a great departure from the water down tales that seems to be a staple of today fairy tale lit.

  • I bought this set back in the eighties and have been looking for another copy for years. This was my lucky find. Hours in the car listening with my daughter or was it me listening to it with her? I never tired of it and you all know how hard that can be.

  • Amazing quality for a used book.
