Junko Morimoto was born in Hiroshima and came to live in Australia in 1982. She has written and illustrated many best-selling picture books including MY HIROSHIMA, THE INCH BOY, KOJURO AND THE BEAR (Winner CBC Best Picture Book 1987), THE TWO BULLIES (Winner CBC Best Picture Book 1998) and RUN DAMON, RUN! Name: Junko Morimoto. DOB: she was born in Hiroshima in 1932. she survived the atomic attack in 1945. Fact: she migrated to Australia in 1982 and is still living here in Sydney! My Hiroshima is a picture book that Junko wrote. Junko is 83 now and she still remembers clearly she was only 13 years old, a school girl when the bomb struck Hiroshima. She stayed home that day because she had a stomach bug, she was with her older brother and 2 elder sisters. Her dad had gone out to get a haircut. it was a warm summer day in Hiroshima until she heard a loud aircraft sound.
