Basil is traveling the wild, wild West on the trail of sinis. I adore Eve Titus's characters, and when you combine her stories with Paul Galdone's illustrations - you get excellent entertainment! Sherlock Holmes has a protege - a mouse, Basil of Baker Street. Like his human counterpart, he solves all kinds of daring mysteries that your family will enjoy.

Basil of Baker Street is the most adorable detective story. I mean, what other detective could console a distressed mother whose children are lost, by saying: "I can offer you only crumbs of comfort. Adaptation Displacement. Badass Bookworm: Basil is quite able to hold his own in a fight against multiple opponents.

I think this is the last Basil of Baker Street mystery that Eve Titus wrote.

Tall and lean, with a hawklike profile, Basil resembles his hero as much as a mouse may resemble a man. We’d gone overseas to Mexico in 1895. I think this is the last Basil of Baker Street mystery that Eve Titus wrote. I made myself read all of them; I think I would have most likely gotten a lot more enjoyment out of them when I was a kid. My main complaint is that the plots are too convoluted while also being stupid. In this last one, Basil and Dr. Dawson thwart smugglers who are stealing antiquities from Mexico.

  • My 7yo loves these. I think they are great because they try to use the style of the original Sherlock Holmes but tailored for kids.

  • I loved this movie. I've seen it maybe a couple million times. When I was in the Navy, stationed in Italy, I ended up borrowing it from a buddy. I need to track him down and return it, as it's been 9 years. Anyways, Children need to read more these days, and specifically my 6 year old son for his birthday, so I bought this for him and he loves it!

  • Perfect for introducing young kids to Sherlock Holmes.

  • Good, clean, and interesting for young children. My 6 year old son enjoys me reading to him The Great Mouse Detective series of books.

  • My girls (4&5) like to watch the Disney movie "The Great Mouse Detective." The movie was based on the Basil of Baker Street books so we started looking for them. My husband reads them a chapter each night before bed. The girls really enjoy the story and so do we. A "simple" mystery that is not to scary, with well thought out characters.
In this book Basil is trying to get to the Grand Canyon to solve a mystery at a hotel but before he can get there he ends up involved in capturing a band of smugglers. This is the last book in the Basil of Baker Street mysterys and my family gives it two-thumbs up!

  • These are great old books I'm so glad they've brought back.

  • wish there was more

  • Why are there so few Basil books, they are witty and well developed and just scary enough for young readers.
