Fire Mountain: The Eruption and Rebirth of Mount St. Originally shot in the IMAX format, this film includes footage from the rescue helicopters that combed the area looking for survivors after the initial eruption. These amazing scenes reveal an unearthly landscape of mud, ash, and steaming craters, which sharply contrasts with the pre-eruption scenery of pristine snow-covered peaks and the crystal waters of Spirit Lake.

  • We bought this book several years ago, just a few years after the eruption. I read it aloud to my family as we were driving to Oregon. We finished it just as we got close to Mt. St. Helens. It was amazing to not only see the devastation, but to see how God had shown us through this cataclysm what He had done thousands of years before, in the cataclysm of the great Flood.
It is well-written, very engaging to read. It appealed to my intelligent husband as well as my (also intelligent :) children, then aged 9 and 10. It is technical enough to suit him, yet personal enough for the rest of us. My younger children have also read it since then and enjoyed it. We still discuss the evidence brought out in the book. I plan to buy another copy for our school and read it to the students there.

  • This book is amazing. Great as a read aloud book for 1st and second graders. Easy read for 3rd and up. Short with only four chapters, a little over 50 pages including pictures. Riveting. True historical accounts. Helicopters, volcanoes, what more can a young child--boy or girl want?! Great book for anyone, even adults.
