Amazing Schemes Within Your Genes (Cells and Things). DNA Is Here to Stay (Cells and Things). Cell Wars (Cells and Things). Enjoy Your Cells (Enjoy Your Cells Series Book 1) (Enjoy Your Cells, 1). Fran Balkwill. I read this book to my children the same evening I got all the children's books on genes. Frankly, when I finished reading this one, I thought to myself that this book was a bit dense-probably best suited for 10 and up and only those scientifically inclined.

A fact-filled, clear introduction to genetics for young readers explains what genes are, how they make protein, their roles in determining physical characteristics, and how genetic engineering works.
  • My five year old loved this book, because the comic strip quips held his attention as I read to him, but most adults could benefit tremendously, and yet painlessly, from reading this little book to learn how genes work. A wonderful children's book that everyone ought to read, at any age.

  • I love this series of books and it was what I expected. such a great way to teach genetics to kids

  • I've pretty much surveyed the field of kid-oriented DNA books, and I think this one is the best. It's pretty wordy, but does a really good job of explaining complex ideas in truly understandable ways, not just glossing over the hard parts like many other books do. It's an excellent primer not just for kids but for adults too.
