Home Rebecca Stead First Light. He loved watching the street awaken at night. The flickering sensation from the afternoon had returned. • First Light was written by Rebecca Stead who has written many more amazing books. This book mostly takes place in Greenland and New York. The two main characters are Peter and Thea who know nothing about each other and who live in different parts of the world, but nearing the end you’ll realize that they’re very close to each other. Peter’s father is an ice researcher and he worked in Greenland while their home is in New York. Thea lives in Greenland in a village called Grace Hope which was built in the ice where there is a freshwater lake. It is an unknown place to most people except to the ones who live there and to Peter’s mother.
I was amazed at how somebody could write a book like this, it would have taken a lot of imagination and thinking. I don’t think I would ever have as much imagination as Rebecca Stead had to right that book. If you love reading books then First Light is a must read, it’s a book in a category of its own. I felt like I was in a dream while reading this book. I hope you feel the same when you read it. This book is too good to be rated only 5 stars so I’ll have to give it a ten or more.

  • I bought this for my grandaughter and decided to read it myself first. I know she will love it, because I couldn't put it down. I read it in one night. The author, Rebecca Stead, used to read Madeleine L'Engle books when she was younger, and uses bits of her books in the dialogue. I loved Madeleine's books as a child and this brought back good memories. The story is of a culture that existed under the earth for many generations, and 2 kids find their way to the surface. They meet another boy and life is never the same again. You must read this, no matter how old you are. It will make your day! And then you must get her other book, "When You Reach Me". They are both awesome books for 5th graders & up.

  • I know I'm kinda late with this review - considering all the other reviews were years ago - Yet, I finished this book recently and Wow! what a thrilling read!
I absolutely enjoyed First Light, and I must admit that Peter and Thea were both captivating characters. The journey to Greenland was captivating, and the
underground Journey through Thea's homeland was astonishing! I also loved that Thea finally discovered the 'outside world!'

Therefore, I found it interesting how Rebecca Stead used 'Global Warming' in this book with a fresh, new perspective.

    Great read! Great author!

  • This was well written and you can't help but love the characters. It hovered between being very real and very absurd. Could place like this exist? It wasn't otherworldly enough to be really science fictionalize, and yet had to be science fiction after all.

  • never read one of this author before. enjoyed it tremendously

  • Prequel to the City of Amber series by another author. I liked this one better. I wonder why one book seems to make it to "star" status, and another that is equally good does not.

Regarding the Kindle version, there were many missing spaces between words, added spaces between letters of words, etc.. It was definitely amateurish.

  • Amazing book, I wish there will be another book about it. I read the First Light straight for 3 hours and didn't even notice the time.

  • Rebecca Stead has the knack of creating well rounded characters we like and care about. Then she shows them forming relationships which are authentic and also worth caring about.
