  • Address the root cause vs slapping medication in top of an issue makes so much more sense to me!

At the outset of the book Dr Weil admits that what we know of nutrition is changing and that the information in the book is based on the best available information we have today. I appreciate that comment because some information is already dated (cholesterol causing fats). But it is a really informative read and his website is current so as new information becomes available or thoughts about specific foods change, one can read the latest available information on the website.

I also like that he is a traditionally trained doctor so that holistic remedies highlighted are neither the popular fad of the day nor baseless in fact. When there are no scientific studies, he may indicate 'some people find 'x' works.'

  • It was recommended that I read this book by a Diet Consultant as I wanted to drop weight, change meds dosages, and cut medicine bills. This book has got it right. I started reading from page 1, and found explanations for all kinds of questions that wasn't even aware that I should have. I am so glad that the Consultant made me aware of Dr. Weil. The road to natural medicine doesn't have to be expensive. I drop 3 lbs at a time usually, and am now through about 3 sizes. I have never been hungry at all through this process, and have learned so much about natural herbal healing. I have recommended this book to so many of my friends who like me reach a point in weight loss, and then can't get around the log in front of them to go forward to accomplish their goal. This book is a very valuable tool.

  • This book is very intriguing as are all of Dr. Weil's works. His guide to health and wellness and perspectives on daily habits, diets and routines are intuitive and informative. However this book is not a step by step guide towards everyday health it acts more as an encyclopedia of Dr. Weil's studies and findings regarding health issues in the world/culture today. Over all I recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn about holistic health. However I do not recommend it as an every day guide towards your holistic health goals.

  • I'm sure the 2004 revised edition is excellent, but I ordered the hard cover which is only the 1990 edition, which is uselessly out of date.

Avoid the hard cover. Amazon doesn't know the difference in editions.

  • This is an excellent book by Andrew Weil. I came across Andrew Weil by reading an interview with him in the Time magazine. He came across as highly knowledgeable about his field and fairly pragmatic so I decided to buy his book which I found delightful. Among the gurus of diet and health, Andrew Weil stands up as highly knowledgeable yet not too dogmatic in his approach, which is based on facts and common-sense. To those like myself who are amateours in this field, he put forward a detailed description of the basic principles of healthy living and eating and information about how natural remedies and medicine can improve your lifestyle. His book was so readable and applicable that many of his advices rang a bell immediately I chose some of his suggestions enthusiastically and I enjoy it ever since. So, if you are up to a healthy change this is a book for you!

  • Andrew Weil approaches herbal and natural remedies from a scientific viewpoint. His book provides a wealth of informed recommendations for curing or managing various illnesses. Weil gives information about the effects of different herbs, vitamins, foods, prescribed medications, and homeo-therapies. I am personally interested in the use of tumeric, black pepper, and warmed milk to cure a cough. Weil wrote that tumeric is a natural antibiotic and can be absorbed in the GI system with black pepper. Warm milk promotes productive coughing of mucous lodged in the lungs. This simple home remedy can prevent bronchitis.

  • A book filled with information about having good health and maintaining it. Learn what are simple remedies for many body ills. Dr Weil (a Harvard trained MD) teaches alternative medicine at the Univ. of Arizona, is internationally recognized and acclaimed. If you seek good health this book will be your guide.

  • This was an easy read & was very thought provoking. Good info. Glad I bought it. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
