Before they can be burned for energy, triglycerides must be broken down into smaller sections called free fatty acids and glycerol, which are able to enter the bloodstream. During exercise, the free fatty acids and glycerol used as fuel can come from anywhere in the body, not specifically from the area that is being exercised. • I checked this out of the library last month, and loved it so much I had to buy it. I like practical tips and tricks when it comes to losing weight, and this book has them.

The food diary technique is fabulous. Yeah, you've heard before that a food diary is a good way to lose weight. I never wanted to try it, though, because it sounded like a lot of work. But this book outlines ways to keep a diary that works for you, and isn't a lot of work. I've been keeping mine steadily since I discovered this book, and it's helping me see where I'm doing well, and where I need to improve. Marvelous!

I also like how this book targets the times you're most likely to overeat. I discovered mine is between late afternoon and late evening. Now I know how to deal with it.

I also liked the technique of chewing gum while you cook. I shove everything I can into my mouth then, along with tasting the food. And I can't do that with gum in my mouth.

I love this book so much, I carry it with me in my purse every day.
No lie. It really helps keep me on track. I'm combining this with Connie Gutterson's books on the Sonoma Diet, and some books on the Mediterranean Diet, and for the first time in years, I'm seeing real results. It's only been a month since I discovered any of these books, but my stomach's already flatter. Whoo-hoo!!!

This book really is different, and I highly recommend it.

  • Great tips, good common sense advice. So good I gave it to a friend as a gift!!!

  • Cathy Nonas RD author of "Outwit Your Weight" recognizes that everyone is different. In her book she gives a number of tips, tricks and tools to help you lose weight and get fit.
The key according to Cathy is to incorporate weightloss strategies that are simple to do and will work best for you.
The book opens with a section on determining your individual fat traps. Are you a chronic snacker, nightime eater, weekend binger?
Do you skip meals, eat from stress, have all or nothing thinking? Once you have identified your weaknesses (and there may be more than one!) Cathy gives you over 200 tools to pick and chose from.
Tools are simple techniques you can incorporate into your daily life that will help you manage your eating weaknesses and achieve your weight loss goals. Tools aren't one size fit all!
She describes a variety of tools to help with your diet danger zones. If you don't like one tool - pick another!
Cathy includes fitness tools, mood tools, behavior and food tools. Many of these tools are fun to try and can add up in pounds lost. For example to teach yourself to slow down when eating, Cathy suggests you use chopsticks for a week. Or you can take a ten minute break in the middle of your meal.
The book also includes tons of recipes like Peanut Noodles with Chicken and Watercress, Garlicky shrimp in mustard sauce, Black Bean Burritos and Potato Chips! Cathy also addresses diet danger zones like holidays, fatigue, and lack of willpower.
The book is chock full of great ideas to incorporate in your life to help you get slim and trim!

  • I agree with the 5 star reviews that this is the best weight loss book now on the market. My reservation is that this is therapy. You must be prepared to be completely honest with yourself, to journal about your feelings, and your relationship to food, and how and why you got in the fix you're in. The book opened a real can of worms for me, and did so for my sister, and neither of us was prepared to go so deeply into the issues. I guess that's why previous diets have failed us! If one is truly ready to do the work, this book is the only tool you will ever need. The approach is encouraging and gentle, but the emotional baggage that comes up can be difficult. I think this book would be most safely used in a support group.

  • How do you battle weight loss and maintenance? In her book "Outwit you Weight" Cathy Nonas provides 200 tools and tips to help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
If you, like many people are concerned with the way you look and feel, this book will provide you many answers. In addition to tools, Cathy breaks down danger zones and physical fitness using real live examples. Healthy recipes are also provided.
"Outwit your Weight" is easy to read, well organized and full of facts and tips. Reading this book is like having a weight loss program at your fingertips. Definitely recommend.

  • This was the first weight/diet related book I ever read and it had quite an impact on me. This book offers useful information about how to eat and usefull tips on how to control impulses to overeat. I'm not saying that this book is the end-all to diet books but it has many helpfull tips and tidbits that can help anyone learn to eat a little healthier.

  • I didn't like it...it didn't have enough writing space. I also didn't like any of the different types of journals, they seemed to be all over the map!
