You can create safe learning environments for children if you also lead by example. One of the major benefits of safe learning environments is that students will begin to take pride in their work and in themselves. If you show kids how important kindness is by taking every opportunity to be kind yourself, they will follow. The reverse is also true, however. One of the best ways to help your kids along on this goal is to skip right to the end result and celebrate their achievements as they are happening.

  • An excellent, well researched book. Very useful and helpful.

  • You owe it to yourself and your baby to read this book and consider the information that it contains. Has several helpful chapters not usually found in most pregnancy "self-help" books. Would highly recommend!

  • This is an outstanding book for pregnant families, and those anticipating or preparing for pregnancy. Lots of opportunity for discussion about what is most important for the family and the baby to be. Each chapter presents questions and a wide variety of answers and suggestions. In childbirth today, there are so many decisons to be made, and conflicting infomation about what might be best for mother and baby. This book lays it all out there for familes so that they can evaluate the informaiton and make an informed choice about thier birthing, thier provider and thier place of birthing. Great book for this monumental decision and experience of a lifetime. Very realistic and comprehensive.

  • Please be aware that this book is now published by Square One Publishers and has been since earlier this year. To get brand-new copies of this book, you need to go to the "other" product page for the book HEY! WHO'S HAVING THIS BABY ANYWAY? as listed on this website. It doesn't presently have the "Search Inside the Book" feature at that product page, but the book is immediately available to be ordered over at that other product page. So to paraphrase Dylan (a.k.a. Zimmerman), "This ain't the book you want, babe / Go to the other page." Now go have those babies over at the "other" product page . . .

  • As a birth doula and childbirth educator, I've an extensive library of birth-related books and am happy to add this to my collection. This book provides the information necessary for women to make sound decisions regarding their care. It also works as a guide in helping them to discover exactly WHAT their birth options are and the best way to go about getting the birth experience they desire through well researched material and helpful worksheets. Birth is a major life event, worthy of AT LEAST the consideration that goes into planning a wedding or buying a home-please don't go into in blind. Buy this book, you won't regret it.

  • This was the first book I bought on intervention-free childbirth and remains the best out of the bunch... I find myself continually returning to it. (It's also the only one my husband read all the way through, which believe me, is quite an edorsement). With this book -- as well as Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, also fantastic -- I feel not only empowered to demand the birthing experience I want, but equipped to negotiate the slings and arrows of doctors/parents/friends/strangers who challenge my decisions. Thanks, Breck... ;)

  • I am a certified birth doula and have been looking for a book to give my clients that will guide them through the maze of choices and options they will run across while planning their births. Breck Hawk has written just the book I was looking for. It is readable, informative without being overwhelming, honest, and easy to work with. She presents the information in workbook style, which makes it easy to clarify and implement your childbirth choices. I highly recommend this book to every pregnant woman!

  • I started reading this book when I was 4 months pregnant (I'm 7 months now). I have never felt so informed, so educated and in control of my pregnancy and upcoming birth. Breck Hawk's book has not only opened my eyes to the risks of the belt-fed, expected epidurals and the quick-to-perform c-sections, but it has given me other options and information in regards to alternatives. We rely so much on what Doctor's tell us that we don't take it upon ourselves to look outside the box. Breck does just that!! This book covers the risks of epidurals, birth plans, your RIGHT to tell a Doctor/hospital staff that this is YOUR birth and you're the boss, etc. Her book is subjective, informative, educational, empowering and a WORTH IT buy!!

This book hands you the power of choice. You set the rules of your baby's birth and you are in the driver's seat. I would recommend this book to any pregnant woman. Throw out "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and embrace the power of education and choice!!

If you want a REAL book, read this one!! This book, is a woman's right to freedom and education over her birth, an INFORMED, subjective educational tool.
