She taught at the University of Lyon II and wrote a thesis on missionaries in Africa in the early 1990s. She is currently a maître de conférences at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University where she is teaching 19th–20th century African history.

Exploration of Africa: From Cairo to the Cape (Abrams Discoveries). The Scramble for Africa: White Man's Conquest of the Dark Continent from 1876 to 1912. There is great information on lodges, hotels and campsites. What I really liked about the book is that it gives a lot more information about the above, and about the cultures and people of the regions than do most travel "guides. I also had the opportunity to see the author, Allen Bechky, speak. He is definitely knowledgeable on the subjects.
