Some years back, I read a fascinating, somewhat short, book entitled A Shield and a Hiding Place, by Gardiner H. Shattuck. What is covers is the religious beliefs commonly held during the Civil War, on both sides of the conflict. The impact of the Judeo-Christian faith cannot be underestimated in that time period, so it was a particularly illuminating read. Anyway, I just thought I'd pass it along.
