One of these, Robert Kennedy, supplied the pulpit for several months, with a view to his being settled as pastor, but the congregation were unable to unite upon him. He was a brother of Maxwell Kennedy, of the Rising Sun, near the Gap, in Lancaster county, who was well known to many of the older persons in this audience. The early Scotch and Irish Presbyterian emigrants brought with them the customs and modes of worship of the churches at home. One of these was that of having two consecutive services on the Sabbath, with an intermission of half an hour.
