  • Interesting read. Filled with information at your fingertips. This is the history of part of my ancestors, who lived in that county. The other part lived in Marion County. I wish that there were more history of Old Effingham.

  • "History of Williamsburg, South Carolina" provides a detailed description of different aspects of life in Williamsburg County, from its inception to the 1920s. I originally purchased the book to help during genealogical research. It covers such a wide range of topics, from families who helped found the county, to businesses that engaged in commerce in the county, to lists of Civil War soldiers, including their African American servants (which proved valuable to me).

From a personal perspective, the somewhat enthusiastic support Mr. Boddie expressed for the KKK and their tactics was a distinct turnoff. However, even given that I found the information contained in the book valuable and would purchase it again.

  • My husband wanted this book to help him in discovering information in his genealogy search. Listening to him recount what he learned about Williamsburg was highly interesting and enthralling. The book helped him tremendously in tracking down some of the people in his family. Based on this I would highly recommend buying this book not only if you are searching for information but also for history's sake.

  • I am very glad this book was reprinted. It is a complete history of Williamsburg County, South Carolina, from its inception until 1923 and cites hundreds of names of persons living there in colonial days. It includes several maps of the area and includes Prince Fredericks and Prince George Districts. It describes the religious and political structure of the churches and communities and captures the pioneering spirit of the first settlers. It is a must read for anyone searching for their roots in eighteenth century South Carolina.

  • I first found this book in the library in Kingstree, SC where I was conducting an extensive family history. When I began reading it in the reference section, I knew I wanted/needed a copy of it. I was happy to know that I could order my own copy. The book is very detailed and specific about the development of the area of South Carolina where my family comes from. Not only does it show the beginning of Williamsburg County, SC, but it gives you good information about the beginnings of America and the early colonies. It gives the names of the original settlers in the territory as well as the native american tribes that inhabited the area. Also a few maps.

This book is an ancestry searcher's dream.
