Chipping Norton is a market town and civil parish in the Cotswold Hills in the West Oxfordshire district of Oxfordshire, England, about 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Banbury and 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Oxford. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 6,337. The Rollright Stones, a stone circle . miles (4 km) north of Chipping Norton, is evidence of prehistoric habitation in the area.

The section from Chipping Norton to King's Sutton (just south of Banbury on the Great Western Railway main line) was completed in 1881. The line ran through a number of stations, including Hook Norton, Bloxham, Adderbury and King's Sutton, before entering Banbury. In 1951, British Railways withdrew passenger services between Chipping Norton and King's Sutton.
