The history of journalism in the United Kingdom includes the gathering and transmitting of news, spans the growth of technology and trade, marked by the advent of specialised techniques for gathering and disseminating information on a regular basis.

Epsom's early prosperity was based on its importance in Tudor times as a near neighbour of Henry VIII's Nonsuch Palace and its development from the 17th century as a spa, following the discovery of water with medicinal properties on the Common - the origin of the famous Epsom Salts. Some of the surviving old houses stand as reminders of those heady days - building materials from the demolished palace were recycled for the mansions of the gentry who settled in the area to be near the wells. As the 20th century dawned, Epsom was still predominantly famous for The Derby. From a number of ancient settlements, this area has grown to become the borough of Epsom and Ewell, extending north-south from Worcester Park to Headley and west-east from Chessington to Nork. This work consists of photographs of Epsom.
