  • The writer of this Holocaust memoir describes his feelings and perceptions of the world he experienced as a teenager.
The voice of this book is one of innocence and one forgets that the writer was a mature man when he put his story to paper. I was drawn into the daily lives of those around him, their family feuds, their fears, their courage, their weakness and their strengths.
The story takes us from the middle class comfort of a family in Brussels to an odyssey through the French Pyrenees, Southern France, over the Alps into Italy. One meets evil face to face, but what stand out are simple, decent acts of humanity by many local people of different faiths, along this journey of survival.
This story weaves into the Holocaust experience a commingling of faith with fate. I have read many Holocaust memoirs, but this one is truly unique and should not be missed. It is an outstanding read, uplifting, filled with hope and a belief in a better world even in the heart of darkness. Suitable for all ages.

  • I recently not only had the great privilege of reading "Walking to Valdieri" by Albert M Sharon but of actually meeting Lynn Sharon, the late Albert Sharon's wife to whom he dictated his memoirs! most books about the Holocaust are always terribly depressing, but this one made me laugh and cry from start to finish! inspite of all the hardships that Albert and his family had to endure while on the run from the Nazis, it is filled with hope and optimism and I highly recommend it for both old nd young readers.

  • A chronicle of heart stopping adventure and survival, of heart breaking loss and betrayal, and of heartfelt humanity and assistance by simple people who had everything to lose and nothing to gain by helping the helpless. Albert Sharon's testimony is a must for any one who believes or has ceased to believe in the indomitable human spirit.
