Ever since shooting a Winchester slide-action rifle in a shooting gallery, it has been my dream to own such a rifle

Ever since shooting a Winchester slide-action rifle in a shooting gallery, it has been my dream to own such a rifle. I find it fascinating to be able to establish the year the rifle was made and to check whether all the parts are authentic because they were made in the same time-frame. 5 people found this helpful.

The Winchester Model 1890 is a slide-action repeating rifle produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in the late 19th and early 20th century. In the late 1880s, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company asked John Browning to design a replacement for the Model 1873 rifle, since the rim fire version of the Model 1873 had never achieved any great popularity. On June 26, 1888, a patent for the new design was issued to John and Matthew Browning.

  • This is an excellent book for Winchester buffs!!

  • Excellent reference. The best I know of.

  • I came to an obsession with antique Winchester rifles late in life. I needed lots of accurate and detailed information about
them, and found that most of it was available in this one book. Ned Schwing did an awesome amount of research and plain
hard work, systematically putting together mountains of information, records, notes and photographs, into a logical, well
organized book. I intend to buy others, to try to fill out my little library, but this one will remain my "go to" reference.

  • Very good guide for the older Winchester .22 pumps. A must have!!!! A great deal for both volumes of the guide.

  • If you are a collector of old slide action Winchester 22's---You got to have this one--Into this book weekly--Great

  • I bought this book, along with Volume 2, a couple of years ago. I have found it to be a thorough reference for the models of rifles discussed. The photography is very good and the author has discussed just about every conceiveable aspect of these old guns. The book is very readable and is brimming with useful information. I credit this book with launching me in a very enjoyable hobby! Anyone who is interested in becoming familiar with the intimate details of these guns will do theirself a favor by acquiring this book.

  • Ever since shooting a Winchester slide-action rifle in a shooting gallery, it has been my dream to own such a rifle. After many, many years, I finally came across a used Winchester Model 61 that I could buy. A large part of the enjoyment, however, comes from reading up on the history of this type of weapon. I find it fascinating to be able to establish the year the rifle was made and to check whether all the parts are authentic because they were made in the same time-frame.

  • Great product
