Series: A Knitter's Dozen series. Paperback: 60 pages I consider myself an intermediate knitter and had no trouble following the instructions which are presented both in text and as charts

Series: A Knitter's Dozen series. I consider myself an intermediate knitter and had no trouble following the instructions which are presented both in text and as charts. Knitting the heads and narrow parts of the skirts on double-pointed needles was a bit of a challenge; so I would not recommend this for a beginner who has no experience using double-pointed needles-unless you have someone to help you. Illustrations are beautiful and clear. The angels work up quickly. I made several for Christmas presents. It took me 2-3 evenings knitting in front of the TV for each one.

Each angel is unique, but the construction and lace patterns are simple variations on a theme so once you have knit one, the next will be even easier. This popular collection first appeared as a series in Knitter& Magazine. Download from icerbox.

The only hard part of knitting these angels is deciding which one to knit first; the only impossibility would be knitting just one. Whether used as holiday ornaments or for year-round decorating, the angels are equally charming when standing alone or hanging on a tree or a package. The series includes ten small angels and two large (tree-top-sized) angels. Each angel is unique, but the construction and lace patterns are simple variations on a theme so once you have knit one, the next will be even easier. And to add to their knitter-appeal, each small angel is shown as a needleworker: two knit, one holds a skein, another winds a ball; there`s a weaving angel, a crocheting angel, a spinning angel, a quilting angel. . .you get the idea. Only the two stately tree-top angels are craft-less. Their arms spread gracefully as they look down on us, not at their work. Suggestions are included for props for readers, gardeners, golfers, cooks, musicians, and other non-fiber friends. The sequence of knitting--first arms, wings, bodice, skirt, then head--lets the knitter see how the lace pattern develops and then explore what can be done with it. • Hard to find Christmas tree topper size!

2 of 12 are sized to top the tree...I was surprised how few topper angel patterns I found online. The 2 that are big enough among the patterns in this book measure about 9 inches. Remaining angels are ornament size, and all 12 projects are covered at Ravelry with knitters' personal photos and comments to help!

  • I just bought a second copy. My mother-in-law loved the angel I made for her so much she wanted the instructions so she can knit some angels, too.

I consider myself an intermediate knitter and had no trouble following the instructions which are presented both in text and as charts. Knitting the heads and narrow parts of the skirts on double-pointed needles was a bit of a challenge; so I would not recommend this for a beginner who has no experience using double-pointed needles--unless you have someone to help you. Illustrations are beautiful and clear. The angels work up quickly. I made several for Christmas presents. It took me 2-3 evenings knitting in front of the TV for each one. It was fun to try the variety of lace patterns. Everyone who received an angel loved it.

The only thing I wish were different about this book is the binding. I would have preferred spiral binding so you could lay the book open flat. The book wouldn't stay open; so I had to mark the page and keep opening it up every time I wanted to refer to the instructions--not too convenient, but also not worth deducting any stars.

  • I saw this book on a fiber-related website and loved the finished products. The book is terrific and I'm looking forward to completing several of these patterns as gifts for friends and family.

  • Fun angels, I made the knitting angel, direction very easy to follow. The treetop angel direction were very confusing, and were difficult to follow, but when she was done she was beautiful.

  • Great instructions both written and charts. Beautiful angels.

  • Beautiful angels, detailed instructions, lots of different angels to make.

  • I LOVE this book. My mom used to make crochet angels but I only know how to knit. I am thrilled to find this book.

  • I am very pleased with the patterns. They are fun to make and who doesn't like lace.
