Most nights this month, Garrison Keillor, host of the long-running radio show A Prairie Home Companion, has put on a white suit, red tie and sneakers, then stepped off his tour bus to perform a version of his weekly program to live audiences around the US. His America the Beautiful Tour features many of the same songs, skits and stories – like the news from Lake Wobegon – that listeners to his Saturday night variety show have heard for the last 42 years. His baritone voice, crooning over rhubarb pie and powdermilk biscuits, is as sweet as it has always been.

  • some repeat stories, and i don't mind much, considering which ones they are, but out of all those years, i'd like to get all new stories on each new collection. am watching for the story that features a mouse with blue paint on its leg.

  • When I need help falling asleep, I put on a CD and listen to the wholesome humor of Keillor's melodious voice. I just love his stories and sometimes I even get to hear the endings when I am really restless. I have most of the stories memorized because they have been played so often. I am often reminded of these stories in everyday life when situations arise that are similar, and have a good laugh at myself.
