The five books of the heart of the Adidam revolution. By (author) Ruchira Avatar Adi Da Samraj.

Adi Da Samraj, born Franklin Albert Jones, was an American spiritual teacher . Adi Da initially became known in the spiritual counterculture of the 1970s for his books and public talks, and for the activities of his religious community. His philosophy was essentially similar to many eastern religions which see spiritual enlightenment as the ultimate priority of human life. Distinguishing his from other religious traditions, Adi Da declared that he was a uniquely historic avatar. As such, Adi Da stated that henceforth devotional worship of him would be the sole means of spiritual enlightenment for anyone else.

1939-11-03)3 November 1939 New York, New York, United States. Adi Da wrote many books about his spiritual philosophy and related matters, founding a publishing house to print them. He gained praise from authorities in spirituality and philosophy, but was also criticized for what were perceived as his isolation, controversial behavior, claims toward exclusive realization, and cult-like community. Aham Da Asmi (Beloved, I Am Da). Book One of The Five Books of The Heart of The Adidam Revelation.

Ruchira Avatar Adi Da Samraj has created a series of twenty-three books that He has designated as His "Source-Texts". Of these twenty-three books, the first five form a sub-series called The Five Books Of The Heart Of The Adidam Revelation.

These five books communicate the core of Avatar Adi Da's Message to all. Aham Da Asmi, the first of these books, is Avatar Adi Da's Magnificent Confession of His Divine Identity and His Eternal Impulse to Offer Perfect Liberation to all.

  • Adi Da Samraj (1939-2008) was born Franklin Albert Jones, but was also known as Bubba Free John, Da Free John, Da Love-Ananda, etc., until from 1991 until his death he settled on Adi Da Love-Ananda Samraj [or just "Adi Da"]. He became a famous and controversial spiritual teacher beginning in the 1970s counterculture. His movement has been criticized as cultic, abusive, etc., although his followers remain devoted to him, and often live in one of his five "Adidam" churches (including his main one on an island in Fiji). He wrote many books, including The Method of the Siddhas,Garbage and the Goddess,Four Fundamental Questions,Ruchira Avatara Gita: The Avataric Way of the Divine Heart-Master,Da Love-Ananda Gita: The Free Avataric Gift of the Divine Love-Bliss,Hridaya Rosary: Four Thorns of Heart-Instruction,Eleutherios (The Only Truth That Sets The Heart Free), and his autobiography, The knee of Listening [revised as The Knee Of Listening: The Divine Ordeal of the Avataric Incarnation of Conscious Light].

This 1998 book begins with more than 60 pages of introduction by devotees such as Carolyn Lee ], who asserts, "the Work of the Ruchira Avatar requires extraordinary Siddhis, or Divine Powers. Throughout His Lifetime, He has Miraculously healed many people. Remarkable weather phenomena frequently accompany His movements. And, time and time again, global conflicts to which He Gives His Regard have been seen to resolve, inexplicably." (Pg. 11) She explains, "There are several parts to the Divine Title and Name of Ruchira Avatar Adi Da Samraj... 'Ruchira' (meaning 'Radiant,' 'Effulgent,' or 'Bright')... In 1979, He Assumed the Divine Name 'Da,' an ancient reference to Real God (first spontaneously revealed to Him in 1970), a Name that means 'the Divine Giver.' In 1994, the name 'Adi' (meaning 'First,' or 'Source') came to Him spontaneously as the complement to His Principal Name, 'Da.'" (Pg. 12)

She adds, "In contrast to conventional religion, there is the Process that Avatar Adi Da calls TRUE religion, religion that is centered in the Divine in response to a true Spiritual Master, who has, to at least some significant degree, REALIZED Real God (as opposed to merely offering teachings ABOUT God). Thus, true religion ... is self-transcending, rather than self-serving." (Pg. 33-34)

Adi Da says, "Beloved, I AM Da. Surrender to Me. Breathe Me and Feel Me IN all Your parts. My 'Bright' Condition Can Also Be Realized By You, If You Forget Your Separate and dying self By Remembering and Receiving Me. Therefore, I Am here." (Pg. 106)

He says, "Your lives as My true devotees are Absolutely Single in Me, 'Bonded' to Me. I am, in this 'Bonding,' Associated with every one, Transcending even relations, and yet Embracing all the variations and in Play with it constantly... I Play with all My devotees. They can be in the millions." (Pg. 127) He adds, "And after My physical Lifetime, I will be in the same Play with you---equally, exactly As in this present-time with you... It will not end. It will always be Fulfilled, and It will always be mysterious." (Pg. 129-130) Later, he is quoted, "I do not require the discipline of conventional renunciation. Nor do I allow commitment to the karmas of self-indulgence. My devotees serve Me through the humorous discipline of an ordinary pleasurable life. This is the foundation of their practice of the Way of Adidam." (Pg. 185)

Adi Da is somewhat of an "acquired taste," and he definitely doesn't appeal to everyone. There are 23 "Source-Texts" he wrote, but this series of five are considered by devotees as the most significant---or at least, the best for beginners wanting to learn more about him and his teachings.

  • There are several reasons why every person should read Aham Da Asmi. I have read it, and my life has been changed. That's an extreme statement to make about a book, but you will understand how I could say such a thing when you read Aham Da Asmi.
In Aham Da Asmi, Avatar Adi Da speaks in plain, straightforward language. What I appreciate the most is being addressed so directly-- for in this book, Adi Da speaks directly to the heart, and the more He spoke to my heart, the more He brought my heart to the fore as the one receiving His Revelation. I soon found myself in a "conversation" in which all my real questions were being answered. And the answers were plain Truth, spoken with the clarity and authority of one who knows. This book reveals Adi Da's utter commitment to engaging the heart of every being in a sacred dialogue. I have always looked for people who are interested in the great matters of life and spirituality, and if you are such a person, I am happy to introduce this book to you.

  • When I first got Aham Da Asmi, I hoped for a lot-- but there is so much more than I even dared hope for. Every time I read it, I find I am changed in some way-- a new understanding of myself, of the world and of God. Adi Da's elegant writing moves me through my confusions, and challenges me to live from a greater depth. For me, the wonderful mystery is: Who can write such transforming words? Who knows my heart so perfectly?

  • When I started reading the other reviews, I started sobbing. I was brought to the moment I first saw Sri Adi Da Samraj in person in 1986. He will also always remain for me Love-Ananda, and I started sobbing uncontrollably heart-broken just seeing him, and I was not until that point inclined that way. As the other reader said: I will always be his student/devotee. His Sacrifice is the first sacrifice and His Teaching, if any real history is told, will be known to be the geatest Dharma to have ever entered the world. It is overwhelming in it's breadth and depth alone, let alone the content, which is without peer. Why so many people fail to see what for me is obvious . . . i have only my own failure to respond in appropriate, deserving, and serious practice to look at.

All His critics are petty dharma bums, but as He has said: "You do well to be offended by Me"

  • I had been searching for God and the meaning of life for as long as I can remember. All that changed the moment I read Aham Da Asmi: Beloved, I Am Da; I knew in my heart that God had found me, at last -- the Living God is here for the sake of all beings! Ruchira Avatar Adi Da Samraj's love and compassion is revealed in this amazing book. Never has such a proclamation so profound and moving ever been uttered. It has changed the course of my life, and I am eternally His devotee.

  • One meaning of the word "realize" is "to make real". The author of this book has clearly realized God, Truth, Consciousness--or whatever you want to call the Absolute. People who realize any degree of truth at all (let alone Absolute Truth) are invariably ignored and unpopular. Let's face it. We all prefer our b.s. illusions, distractions, and consolations.
So I recommend reading 'Aham Da Asmi' for a shocking change. Who knows, maybe you'll find you have a taste for Truth. Lucky you.
