  • It seems a good book. Pretty well organized and informative. I think I got it for $1.80 or something like that, a fantastic price.

Was hoping to find tips on better photos in low light and at night. It did not help much in that regard. Not because the info was inadequate. But because most digital cameras in my category, simply don't have the ability to work well in low light or at night.

My Panasonic DMC TZ5 is a great camera, as reviews suggested. However it does not have much ability to manually set shutter speed or aperture. The 2 dozen preset "mode" options include night portrait, and "starry sky". The Starry Sky has abut 3 presets for long exposures. None of those is practical for hand-held pictures, on the go. They're for tripod, stationary scenes only.

I guess a digital SLR would help for low light, and night photos. But I used a film SLR for many years, and tho the camera was a good one, I didn't have much luck in low light with that either.

  • I bought this book to help my students when I was teaching Creative Abstract Photography. It has some simple to more complicated tricks but does an excellent job of visually showing you not just talking about the methods.

  • I bought this book not knowing what to expect from it..impulse buy. There was this book and another on Photoshop Elements 2.0 by the same author/company. But I figured it is more important to learn to take good/great pictures first then learn how to fix any errors or adjustment in pictures. Completing the book I am very happy of the purchase and the style it was written with color pictures step by step so you don't get lost. In fact I'm going to buy the Photoshop Elements 2.0 from the same company because I like their five star visual learning system. This book is not for the advanced photographer but but for the beginner to intermediate it is EXCELLENT. Well priced too!!! :)

  • This is a wonderful book. I recommend it for beginners, and for mid-level digital photography enthusiasts that are having a hard time absorbing all of the technical jargon. I have my mind so full of computer jargon that it seemed there was no place left to "file" the lingo for my somewhat serious photography hobby. Each page has equal amounts of text AND example photos with explanation, and all IN COLOR. I'm not sure how others feel, but I can't read a book on photography that doesn't have pictures, or where the photographs are in black and white. (unless black & white photography is the subject of course) This gave me a new way to look at things, corrected some very big misunderstandings, and definitely made a BIG difference in the quality of my photographs. I use a professional digital SLR, and the hints and tips in this book have been keeping me interested and busy for more than two weeks now. You won't be disappointed!

  • The only thing I didn't like about this book was that the first page of the photoshop section says "This section requires familiarity with basic Photoshop Elements commands; to learn these commands see "Teach Yourself VISUALLY Restoration and Retouching with Photoshop Elements" If you haven't read that book, this section might not make a lot of sense. It is full of great tips, ideas that are very helpful. It doesn't go into great depth on subject matter but is good for a beginner.

  • This is a great book, all the basic for Digital photography from A to Z, very clear and easy to follow up step by step. If you start into Digital Photography this is the book you need to read and remember: practice, practice and practice.

  • This book has so much great information in it. Glad to have it in my library. I am not the biggest 'techy' on the planet, and I have not failed to open this book to look for one specific thing, without finding several other essential, and oh, so helpful bits of information.

  • Written by Mary G. for Ann F. and Mary G. @ SCG Photos
Using "Simplified, Tips& Tricks" was soothing to my novice photographer's heart. I was able to quickly scan and/or find all topics of interest by color, number, and/or page. The table of contents was simple and direct in layout, while being comprehensive in alerting me to what each section/chapter offered. I also found that there was an abundance of photos and illustrations...which I would expect in a photography handbook , but is not always the case as I've learned. I found the color bar which rated the degree of difficulty for the "tip/trick" presented; was most useful and right on, in choosing a new task to try at my novice level. This is an excellent book for the photographer who is ready to move past the "auto" setting and gain more knowledge and experience.

What was especially wonderful about "Simplified, Tips & Tricks" is that the body of the book delivered on what it promised in the table of contents, and the delivery was uniform, multi-faceted, and comprehensive without being overwhelming. A useful book that will be used over and over again!
