The Conspiracy of Silence is a 1995 television documentary that outlines the problem of domestic violence in the United States, and describes some solutions. The title refers to an unspoken pact in an abusive relationship, in which the abuser expects the victim never to disclose the abuse, and the abused complies in the hope of avoiding further violence.

Conspiracy of silence: The insurgency in southern Thailand. Going by titles alone, Zachary Abuza’s latest book – on the violence in Thailand’s restive southern provinces – is arguably the most provocative to have been published in recent times on the topic. Joseph Chinyong Liow a a S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. First published on: 06 October 2009. Conspiracy of silence raises the specter of intrigue and subterfuge. Rather than the organic, decentralized insurgency that many see, Abuza’s title compels the reader to ask a host of pertinent questions. Why is there a conspiracy?

In this eye-opening volume, the author examines the roots of the current southern Thai conflict, gives a detailed overview of the present crisis, documents the flight of the south's Buddhist community, and argues that the Thai government has woefully misplayed its hand.
  • Today I finished reading this book which is the first especially about terrorism I've read. I mowed from Denmark to Thailand and each day we out here, in news, hear and seas about bombs and people killed by shooting. And as the writer puts it, South Thailand, concerning the Muslim problem, is the most critical place in the world. And as it's written, since 2004, 2.000 children have lost parents, and 1.000 parents have lost their partner.

The book is very detailed, mentioning nearly all what has happened, concerning the problem, since 2004, with around 800 references. And we se that more than 50 % of the persons killed are Muslims, who are killed by other Muslims for working for the Thailand state, or doing other things that for the terrorists are against Allah. For example it's not allowed to work on Fridays.

And in the end of the book comes copies of translated leaflets meant for either Muslims or Buddhists. To the Muslims for example telling that they must not buy grounds or houses from not Muslim persons because "They came here 200 years ago, without owing anything, now they must leave again without owing anything". And the not Muslim persons are for example given a week to leave their houses. And the Muslims are not allowed to be born in the hospitals because woman's being there will not be hidden in clothes. And as a result of that, in South Thailand, more Muslims woman die by the birth, and more newborn are not registered and having different failures, than in Ethiopia!

In the book there are also about the politic by the government since year 2000, both the good and the bad. But even though lowering the tax from 30 % to 3 % in the 3 south provinces, Thailand persons are still leaving these provinces and Muslims being afraid for working for the state.

And as written, and we each day see in TV, teachers are maybe the most hunted person, if they work for the state, no matter if the are Muslims or not. And as a result of that the pupils from the states schools in the 3 provinces, 80 % of them do not owe the education they ought to have.

After finishing the book I start speculation about what the future will bring.
