Prior to joining the SFSU faculty, Zettl worked at KOVR (Stockton-Sacramento) and as a producer-director at KPIX, the CBS affiliate in San Francisco, where he participated in a variety of CBS and NBC network television productions.

The Television Production handbook does a great job with explaining the basic principles of television production and direction. If you're lucky enough to get a copy with Zettl's VideoLab CD, that's almost as good as the book

The Television Production handbook does a great job with explaining the basic principles of television production and direction. My only complaint is that some of the images in the book seem a little dated for a book that was published in 1999. But overall, good book, good value.

  • I have been looking for this volume! Loaned it out but never got it back. Although it is an older version with an analogue perspective, it is a valuable resource for setting up and running your video studio. I used it as a reference to build a small television station. Also a great training aid for your camera operators, providing valuable insights on composition, shot placement and lighting.

  • I have the Fourth Edition of this book; I used it while doing an interm with a local cable company. Great for newbies to the television and video industry.
