Assessment of Pulmonary Function Indices. Brunner, Josef . Dr. Sc. techn. Bibliographic Information. Pulmonary Function Indices in Critical Care Patients.

Assessment of Pulmonary Function Indices. Application 1: Standard Values During Mechanical Ventilation After Cardiac Surgery. Application II: A Study on Optimizing Mechanical Ventilation. Application III: A Study on Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (IMV).

Pulmonary Function Indices in Critical Care Patients. In intensive care medicine, pulmonary compliance is one of the very helpful diagnostic indices. Pulmonary gas exchange rates in eight patients after open heart surgery were studied during weaning from the ventilator. We investigated continuous positive pressure ventilation (CPPV), intermittent mandatory ventilation (IMV) and spontaneous breathing with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Because of technical difficulties, however, the measurement of pulmonary compliance is often reduced to a rough guess of the compliance of the total respiratory system.

Pulmonary embolectomy is technically a relatively simple operation. ECMO can be helpful in critical situations, ensuring circulation and oxygenation until a definitive diagnosis is obtained.

Features: The book is divided into pulmonary and critical care sections. The pulmonary section covers the approach to hypoxemia, hypercapnia, ventilatory failure, pulmonary function testing, chest imaging, dyspnea, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, obesity hypoventilation, lung cancer, aspergillus lung disease, cough, sarcoidosis, venous thromboembolic disease, pneumothorax and parenchymal lung disease. The unique features of this book are the concise presentation, bulleted format, discussion of common misconceptions, ample diagnostic and management algorithms, common questions on the topic from learners, and case vignettes.
