A history of the unique language of Boonville, California, called Boontling.
  • Great book! While reading this book in public at cafes or on public transit, people would ask me what the book was even about. They were intrigued to learn about a U.S. home-grown language and I'm sure they wanted to pick up the book or learn some phrases online. Well, I can't quite harp Boont just yet, but this book is a pretty informative and interesting look into the development of a language.

  • This is a fascinating look at local slang and language. The book is perhaps a bit more technical than I expected, in that it gets deeply into language parts that are way beyond what we learned in English classes in K-12 and beyond.

  • If you enjoy language, especially the slang used in various dialects, you'll probably enjoy this book. It goes into more technical detail than I was expecting; the author seems to have anticipated and addressed readers' technical questions. Regardless, there are some very entertaining expressions and etymologies for casual readers.

  • Just as described. It is truly in excellent condition. A real treasure from the past. If you find one, get it. You will be really entertained using the language with your friends. Vendor is prompt and honest.

  • Great read

  • It's hard to rate this book because whether it is "good" or not depends on what you are looking for. Personally, I was looking for something more that a Boontling/English dictionary. But, this is way too much for me. This is a full-blown textbook. It reminds me of the Spanish textbook I had in school many, many years ago. It goes into great detail on grammar and nuances to the point of knowing how to ask where the nearest grocery store is gets lost. So, if you are looking for a book to take on vacation and speak amongst the natives, this book it way too much. But if you want to learn the language the way it was taught in high school, this may be for you. A plus for me is that my copy is autographed by perhaps the most famous speaker of Boontling: Bobby (Chipmunk) Glover.
