Author Michael Cummings explains the origin, nature, and amount of genetic diversity present in the human population and how that diversity has been shaped by natural selection.

This Updated 7th edition features a new section, "Genetic Control," at the end of the text. This section complements Cummings' coverage with a series of cases from noted medical ethicist, Dr. Ronald Munson, which investigate the issues surrounding the stem-cell debate, genetic counseling, genetic testing and reproductive decisions, and gene therapy. These cases are reinforced with original readings from other noted geneticists, ethicists, and medical policy makers. The result is a text that will draw students into the most current research in genetics and educate them on the latest challenges facing physicians, researchers, and society. Instructors will find this Seventh Edition of HUMAN HEREDITY current, clear, and complemented by an amazing array of technology for students and instructors. Additional student support includes Human GeneticsNow, a password-protected website integrated with the Seventh Edition that provides students with access to diagnostic Pre-Tests and Post-Tests for each chapter. It automatically generates customized learning plans for students, directing them to text information and ancillaries that help them master specific concepts. Active Figures in the text, indicated by a media icon, have corresponding narrated animations on the Human GeneticsNow site that are included in the customized Learning Plan along with additional animations and media assets. For instructors, a Multimedia Manager provides all of the art and photos from the text in PowerPoint form, and, lectures can be further enhanced by using animations and videos on human heredity topics.
  • I usually hate reading college textbooks, but this one was great!! All the information was broken down well, and it made learning in class so much easier. My professor had the powerpoints that go along with the book, but the information was sometimes vague, so I definitely recommend getting the book :)

  • Book came in in “Acceptable” condition as a rental. No tears but a lot of wear on the cover, a tell-tale that the book’s been used by many, many students. Pages are all intact, just the paperback cover is very worn. Great information and I refer to the book a lot.

  • This textbook is an excellent tool for genetics classes or personal enrichment. The book begins with an understandable platform of basic biology so everything that follows makes sense. I loved and love (I still have it) how this book combines simple language to explain terminology and interesting phenomena in genetics and heredity! The colorful illustrations in the book are clear, well labeled and easy to use. I recommend this book.

  • Was a very good book, still have it though because it is not bought back by any stores.

  • This is a required text for my genetics class, however I feel like it's my easiest read for the semester. The author does a good job of providing clinical case studies related to concepts covered in each chapter and has excellent summary tables and figures. Also, the additional online questions are an excellent study aid. This book is expensive for the actual size but amazon had the best deal around.

  • Yes, great, my daughter likes the book a lot very needed in her class.

  • Great textbook. It is paperback and international edition, but for the price compared to a hard copy, this is a steal. I used it for my Human Genetics course at Berkeley and it is exactly the same as the non-international edition. Would highly recommend purchasing this book.

  • I rented this book a while back for my genetics class. I wish I would have bought it! Genetics is my favorite topic and this book made the topic easy to understand and fun to learn about. I have never said this before about a textbook, but I actually enjoyed reading this one.
