Originally written in German, this translation is thoroughly updated, augmented, and vastly improved under Brown’s able leadership. Of great value to both the beginner and the more advanced student is A Linguistic Key to the Greek New Testament, Volume I: Matthew-Acts (Zondervan) by Fritz Rienecker. translated from German and revised by Cleon L. Rogers.

The Old Testament quotation Matthew cited (Matthew 27:9–10) may be a combination of words from Zechariah 11:12–13 and words from the prophet Jeremiah (perhaps Jeremiah 18:2; 19:1–2), even though Matthew cited Jeremiah as the writer. Early Christian writers knew the Old Testament prophecies so well that sometimes they combined the information from various sources. According to the Greek text of Matthew 27:26, Barabbas’s first name was Jesus. Jesus Barabbas was a thief, murderer, and traitor, while Jesus the Christ was perfect.

The New Testament is the second part of the Christian biblical canon, the first being the Old Testament. The New Testament discusses the teachings and person of Jesus, as well as events in first-century Christianity

  • This is an extremely valuable book. The writers took a lot of time and effort to ensure this book is as complete as possible. It displays the Greek words, what they mean, and how they can be translated. They provide an extensive abbreviations section that includes books, journals, and other general abbreviations. Using this guide will help to more fully understand the message that the verse is saying. If a verse doesn't make sense to you, perhaps seeing a different word may spark something in you to help you with understanding.

For anyone serious about Bible study, sermon creation, and getting God's Word out, you need to get this book

  • More than any other Greek reference tool, this handy volume has been my steadfast companion to NT. While I still use other Greek reference books, this remains my most treasured book. In sum, these are the reasons why:
    1. It is arranged according to the order of the New Testament (book by book, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse). Therefore, it is tremendously easy to use.
    2. Every important verbs, nouns, prepositions are mentioned with accuracy and clarity. The definitions are given to understand the meaning of the word in the context.
    3. It provides important cultural and historical background of the word used. This is important in exegetical work.
    4. The typeset is easier to the eyes.
    5. It is portable. This book is light and small, therefore you can carry it anywhere.
    NOTE:
(a)The new edition came out, but I quickly went back to this volume. The new edition is large, heavy, and less appealing.
    (b) This book is out of print. So you might have to find it in used book sale. I was fortunate enough to find another one (via Amazon.com) since my old one is quickly falling apart.

  • This book is a wonderful help in personal and Sermon preparation when one is using a New Testament text. Word meaning is key to understanding any passage and communicating that meaning to others. This is a book I have long wanted, and now enjoy almost daily. Keep it close for quick reference.

  • Excellent reference for study, especially when focusing on the verbs.

  • Very useful tool

  • Excellent resource!!!

  • Good but not what I thought it was. I ordered one from another website with the exact same picture but this one was different
