Robert Howard Pierson (3 January 1911 – 21 January 1989) was a president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists during the 12 1/2-year period June 16, 1966 to January 3, 1979. While in the line of duty, Pierson served in North America, Asia and Africa. He interacted with 3 . Presidents and the Presidents or Prime Ministers of 8 foreign countries, plus many governors, mayors, and other governmental dignitaries.

Professor Pierson was a descendant of Abraham Pierson, a founder of Yale and its first president. He recruited the noted historians Arthur and Mary Wright to teach Chinese history and John W. Hall to teach Japanese history. After receiving a bachelor's degree from Yale in 1926, he immediately joined the faculty. He earned a doctorate in history there in 1933 and was named to an endowed professorship in 1946. Mr. Pierson also recruited and worked closely with such influential historians as C. Vann Woodward, John Blum, Edmund S. Morgan and Howard R. Lamar, who recently served as Yale's interim president.
