Pronouncing American English: Sounds, Stress, and Intonation (Second Edition)
  • An excellent study and practice textbook for an ESL teacher familiar with American English linguistics. In simple English it covers the main aspects of American English vowels, consonants and combinations, although the word "diphthongs" is never used. Basic Stress and Intonation patterns are well illustrated. . Excellent graphics. The appendix on homophones is very useful. It could be more technical. The Instructor's Manuel/Answer key and tapes are essential. I found the used copies useful and very inexpensive.

  • Easy to use, logical progression, interesting to students. I used it for many years and it was a great help.

  • Used this book and referred to it many times when teaching English to second language learners. Second and third level English learners especially appreciated it. Easy to understand and apply these principals of pronouncing tricky sounds of English.

  • I bought this book for a college course. It was very useful for the course as the professor stated. This book arrived on time and in great condition.
